Intro

When Robert Baratheon's betrothed, Lyanna Stark is kidnapped by Rhaeger Targaryen, her brother, Brandon Stark, and his companions marched to King's Landing, against the advice of Hoster Tully. Before the Red Keep, Brandon called upon Rhaeger to come out and die. The Mad King, Aerys II Targaryen, infuriated by the audacity and rendered unstable by crippling paranoia had the party seized and imprisoned. The message was sent North calling for the men's fathers to come and answer for their sons treasons. Both generations and two-hundred of the North's finest were slaughtered without trial, leaving Ethan Glover as the only survivor. Compared to the fate that befell Brandon and Rickard, these executions were merciful.

Before long a royal messenger arrived at The Eyrie, demanding that Jon Arryn surrender both Eddard Stark and Robert Baratheon, his wards, to the king's justice. Instead the Lord of Eyrie has called his banners preparing to bring The Mad King to count of his unjust actions.

This is the start of what will become known as The War of the Usurper.

Eddard Stark flees north to take its lordship and to rally his troops, taking a ship from the finger with the intent to land at Whiteharbour.

Robert Baratheon parts ways with his oldest friend, riding South to Gulltown so as to sail back tot he Stormlands and rally his banners and rescue his betrothed.

Jon Arryn has sent out the ravens calling his banners to ready for war, however, it is to be seen how many of his Lords place their loyalty to him above that to the crown.

Hoster Tully pledges himself to the rebels cause, sealing the bond with marriage, with Catelyn Tully marrying Eddard and her sister, Lysa, Jon.

To the West, the mighty lion has retreated to its den, slighted by the king but bearing no love for the North it remains to be seen which side Lord Tywin of House Lannister will take in the coming battle.

At Kings landing the king dismisses these movements, assuming that the royal forces, supplemented by the men of Dorne and The Reach can easily crush the upstarts. However three of the kingsguard are nowhere to be found, leaving the king less secure than he might hope.
