Jingo Eugene, I do not think restricting things like that is a good idea, one could say humans magic is like that, I've read the books and I like it too. But to make it a game rule is a bad idea. The Humans or some other race could do it like that. The only race we start out with is a Human nation I think. And their source of power could for example be their god The White one or something. All other Nations needs to be fleshed out and made well. With a explanation on culture economics, and they need to talk with the "LoreMaster" To get it integrated into the game. Point being, they, the other races will maybe have their own god or another source to their over-worldly powers. And it will work within other rules restrictions and with differential potency. The Way to balance it is: The Human Nations have, say, 2 in Magic.(Out of for example ten points) Which means magic is quite common in the Kingdom, not something taught to the common populace but something that is in peoples everyday-life in some way or another.. Then the nation may have 3 in Infrastructure and so on until it reach the available 10 points.. Magic need to be explained and fully understood by the person approving it as it needs to comply with the points given to the race. Do I make sense? The Dwarfs may have Rune Crafting, which works as it does, as it have been originally explained. they get this power from..... The ancient spirits of the ancestors that first made the runes in their deepest rune-hall or something. The Human Nation get it for example from The White One, So, how does these two magics work against eachother? What is the weakness and benefit of both? Which Nation supports it the most and which race have the most natural aptitude for magic? And then it goes on, this leaves for endless imagination and a open-mindedness for new magic systems. Which does not restrain the players to abide by a certain way. This way people can make their Magic exactly as they wish.
