Do you understand their arguments and hate? I don't as you can play off line and value has said many times that they will patch games to work without steam if they ever die. I love how you can buy indie games on it and older games and it works flawlessy for me.
I think personally that people hate steam due to the fact they are used to getting a game installing it and it being stand alone... but steam does work for you, it keeps you upto date on content and also gives you a friends list kinda like gamespy tried to do, but 1000 times better
I agree with Axius. The only problem I have with Steam is that it makes it harder to mod games.

I love steam, I think it's a great platform for getting games, especially ones that you can no longer buy in hardcopy CD format. Also, they have some great steam sales pretty often that is a good way to get good games for cheap.
thats a lie, i have tons of mods on steam for rtw, all mods work with steam ,you just need to do soe extra stuff
