Let's share my view on condemnation and justice in an another perspective.

A crime is a breach of law(s) which the law system is made by the government. A crime can be seen differently in every country with different level of condemnation.

Let's take a case in Quebec, Canada that maybe others have heard. Is the case of Guy Turcotte. a Cardiologist that kills his two children and is now recognized not criminally responsible for his act due to mental problem.

He was divorced recently when he learns that her ex-wife cheated on him with a close friend of the family. Then he went into depression and was thinking to kill himself. Then one day, he went to his ex-wife house to take the kids, renting a movie and eating diner. Later knight, the black thoughts came back and he wants to finish this off. he took a knife and try to kill himself, he couldn't do that, he was scared or any other reasons. Then instead he went to his son room, killing him with almost 40 knife strokes. Then he goes into his girl room and kill her as well. Then he drank around 2 liters of washer liquid to try to kill himself. Now let's analyzing it with more details.

    • Two months ago, he was studying the consequences of drinking washer liquids to see hoe much is deadly.
    • In the court, he said that his children was everything to him.
    • He resigned to kill himself firstly because he didn't want to make his children to see him dead. Then he would instead bring them with him.
    • When he firstly kill his son, he panicked when he land his first stroke and his son scream, then he's gives other knife strokes until he dies. He did the same with his girl.
    • There's was a fight between her ex-wife and him, regarding properties, and the relation itself.
    • In his childhood, he was the black sheep in his school, always been called "the nerds". He was intelligent and isolated.
    • Many of his coworkers said that he was a great doctor, helping others and he would never hurt someone.
    • He had a fight with the lover of his ex-wife.
    • He said to his ex-wife that " you want a fight, you will have it". There's some sign of revenge and hate.
    • Then now the defense explain that he was temporary outside the reality when the act happens, alienation and all the like. He was depressed and didn't realize that he hurts his children.

There's many other points but instead I can refer you to some articles.

Now let's discuss about that case.

    • Any rational person knows that killing is an irrational act (I exclude religion in that case).
    • When a criminal is making that crime, in a way, he's actually deranged to do that act. All killers have psychological problems. Psychopaths, serial killers are all incarcerated at jails but why him as exception?
    • With that verdict, now that case will act as jurisprudence for other similar cases and the criminal will use Guy Turcotte case to defend themselve, relieving on temporary alienation.
    • There's another case that a man kills his girl, but it was different, his girl was severely handicapped and she was begging to die, his father unplug her and he had 25 years old as sentence.

I would like to hear your opinion on that, what would be the approach, even if you do have psychological problems or not, you should go to jail or that verdict was satisfied?
