The following events must always be publicly announced:

Declarations of war
Ceasefire and peace treaties
Claims to territory and other changes to your formal title
Merger or union of nations
Territorial purchases or trades
Declarations of secession/independence
Change of government

I think you got the Irish war wrong. Spain was allied to the Irish side against the English. Here's the wiki article for that war.

Open question to France and allies: Is that a coalition or does everyone just happen to be allied with France? If it's a coalition, let me know so I can label it in the OP (because if it's a coalition then you're all allied to each other and people should know that )
