A party of Roman envoys led by Kyrillos Marzupholos arrives at the palace of the governor of German East Africa, accompanied by twenty Kataphractoi who are armoured from head to toe along with their steel-clad horses, wearing the golden two-headed eagle of the Eastern Roman Empire.

Kyrillos, as the leader of the party, dismounts and hands over a scroll to the guards and says -
"We come with an offer of trade agreement and alliance between the Roman Empire and Deutsches Kaiserreich. His Imperial Majesty thinks highly of you, and is very friendly towards the Kaiser and German people, and thinks that opportunities of trade and a pact of alliance will surely bring our two nations close.

Please hand over this scroll to the governor, it contains all the details of the trade-alliance treaty between Romans and Germans.
    "

He patiently waits for an answer.

    Willkommen our british friends,

this treaty sounds good ,although the leader of germany is called "Kaiser" ,that means he is an emperor. Not a king. We will send a big load of ivory down to Cape Town and we wish you good luck in the war against the natives.
May our friendship be long and effective.

The Hauptmann of the Schloßgarde-Kompanie takes the scroll and orders the guards to open the big gates to the Throne Room.
He also orders a servant to give the byzantine ambassador a seat.
    "Please, sit down and stay."
Then he goes into the throne room and the guards close the gates again.
After ten minutes he comes out and says :
"Thank you for waiting, byzantine ambassador. The Gouverneur said : Yes, we will accept your offers and I want to send you 10 of my best war elephants as a gift for
Basileios Konstantinos III Palaiologos. Let our friendship hold long.
    "

Kyrillos stands up and bows low, and says - "We are honoured by your gift, my lord. And we thank you very much for accepting the offer. May our friendship last forever!"

He bows again, and leaves the palace to begin the journey back to Alexandria.
