The Death of Barachel
And he, Barachel, descended from Tingis, where he had been at the gates to council the elders of the city, to Gava'ah, his home. And he arrived in Gava'ah and lay down on his bed. And feeling death approach him, he called Alexander, the prince of Castile, who stayed in his home, to come before his countenance, that he would bless him. And Alexander came, and he approached and he knelt. And Barachel blessed Alexander and spoke to him. And having done that, Barachel died. And the elders of Gava'ah surrounded his bed and wept, for Barachel, the prophet, did not live, but had died.
These are the words that Barachel spoke to Alexander, after he had given his blessing to the prince:
But hear me, in the days of disease and death, the judge and his wife will get together, and she will become pregnant and before the end of her days, she will give birth to a son. This son will rebuild the ruins of his ancestors, cleanse what is foul and elevate that what must be elevated. In this son, the House of Apsytun will be redeemed. And before the countenance of the judges and prophets, this son will be respected, and great his name shall be, before the slaves and the merchants, and before the soldiers and the farmers. And from his hands, many crafts will be manufactured, and in his hands shall be the wealth of Tingis.
And Alexander stood up and left, gathering men around him to return to the land of his father, to return to the palace of his brother. And he went in peace, bearing Barachel's blessing.
And the word of Barachel's death reached Tingis and Laraish and many mourned the prophet's death. And they gathered around in Gava'ah, to lay the prophet to rest, and they buried him within a cave. And all his prophecies were gathered, and stored in the house of the prophet. And the son of Apsytun put guards around the house of the prophet, so no one would enter and steal the scrolls.
And when the prophet's grave was sealed, disease struck the lands of the Republic, starting the fulfillment of the prophet's words.
All this came to pass in the second year of the judge Azmalqart.
