The Welsh wars really damaged the English economy (Edwards troops were thwarted trying to cross into Wales, Wales only lost after Llywelyn died and because of traitorous Welshmen revealing the Welsh plans to the English! + Edward built those massive castles which really damaged the English treasury) and the Welsh rebellion later almost conquered England. Plus we have the Teutonic order with us this time round!
