The First 3-Month Plan At the moment, our main goal is to create an atmosphere conducive to modding. We are creating the bare bones that will one day serve to attract modders. This means creating modding tutorials, minor mods, compiling things, and generally tidying things up (I will personally start creating various stickies and tutorials). Thus, our take-off might be rather slow. Once the bare bones have been created, I hope to encourage the creation of several mini-mods. It is hard to attract large mod projects without a sense of a modding community existing. Subsequently, once things are underway, I seek to attract the first large mod project, either from another site or one started here on TWC. Once we have reached that point, I might also ask a few development team members to join that mod team, to really help it take off. So the current plan is as follows: 1. Tidying-Up Phase 2. Mini-Mod Phase 3. Major Mod Project Phase
I can definitely make some mini mods, I already want to make a Protestant Reformation kind of thing.
OK,sounds good!
Excellent. I myself will get started the coming week. It's currently finals week here, so I'm rather busy. We will get this thing going. We will.
Do you think we should have a front page announcement? It will attract attention, plus it coincides with most recent release of Diadochi Kings, which now includes a full map.
That is a good idea. Does anyone have a nice graphic that we could use to catch people's attention?
some year ago i attempted making and maintaining a Norse themed mini-mod. i eventually gave it up because i had some coding bugs and a few vague comments in the error log, while Paradox constantly keep altering the game-files. during this i came into several different areas of CKII-modding. such as mapping and placing/orientation of map objects(ports, settlements, armies and advisors when apearing in regions). adding and arranging characters and dynasties into family trees, adding new traits and by-names with simple triggers, some simple events and triggers, a bit of UI editing and other simple graphics. i do not have much spare time for either computer games or modding, but if there were to be made some TWC mini-mod compilation i might have something to add to the mix. also i allways wanted a full-conversion mod set in mid 400`s or early 500`s, that is late Roman - early Merovingian times. but i do not have much time for modding and such.
I would love to get a huge mod project like that underway too, but sadly we don't have the numbers to get it done. One mod I've always wanted to make is a Stargate mod, since the feudal system is perfect for this. But this would require serious manpower.
Ever since I made the front page announcement, we have had lots of activity in the new CK2 subforum. Now is the time for you guys to develop things.
Diamat, what do you reckon is the most paramount area to start with first? (Player guides, modding guides etc.) Would be good to know before I start.
Modding. Modding is the material basis of any sustained forum activity. If we cannot attract modders, this experiment will fail. However, attracting modders is also the most difficult part. I have already talked to a few modders on the official paradox forum, but getting them to host a copy of their mod here has been difficult, especially because I don't want to seem like a spammer to them.
Very well, then. I'll start cooking up a guide of what is necessary to start modding or something along the lines. And oh, I could get to host the Witcher RPG mod here, since I am a developer/major contributor in it, if the mod leader agrees, that is. He wasn't interested to do so personally earlier, but he might let me.
That would be wonderful! I mean, Diadochi Kings is here too, because Hobbes is a member. So it's not unheard of.
I will ask him once he is online, and I'll let you know of his response.
I've received a positive response. I'll post a topic shortly. E: And it's done. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...-Witcher-Kings
Excellent work Clagius. Having connections is obviously beneficial. I don't have such connections, sadly. Well done.
Thank you. And yes, indeed it is. I can imagine it's difficult to convince all these modders to come over and host their project here as well.
I wrote a review so there's that. I contributed to this several months late and with the group's creator gone from TWC.
