The economy of the Caliphate was very diverse and successful, primarily consisting of trade. Muslim trade routes connected al-Andalus with the rest of the Mediterranean and beyond. There were many areas of industry that were revitalized during the Caliphate: textiles, ceramics, glassware, metalwork, and agriculture all benefiting the state. The Arabs introduced new crops, such as rice, watermelon, banana, eggplant and hard wheat. They used better irrigation systems with the help of water wheels. The news reaches Córdoba that the Republic of Genoa have given up their claims on the Italian peninsula, and have surrendered to the Romans. The atmosphere is tense in the Throne Room as the message is read aloud. The Caliph's advisor speaks first, "There is no reason for us to be at war with Rome anymore, sir. We have no claims in Italy. The only reason we-" "I know!" The Caliph replies angrily. The room hushes immediately. "I know..." he continues quietly. "We entered the war to help restore Genoa its rightful claims in Italy. Now that the Republic is no more, this war serves no purpose." Caliph Hisham rubs his chin ponderously. "Send a message to Rome: The Caliphate of Córdoba is willing to endure a cease-fire with the Romans..." He makes a face. "Although it is distasteful, to say the least." He glances over to his scribe, and rolls his eyes. "No, you idiot. Don't add that last part. Just: The Caliphate of Córdoba is willing to endure a cease-fire with the Romans. Add some fancy words at the end, if you want to..." He mutters under his breath, "Though I doubt the Roman barbarians will understand half of them." The advisor chuckles at that. "Done? Let me see it." The Caliph looks over the parchment, and with precise, elegant strokes, signs his name. "Put on the seal, and have this sent immediately." He stands to address the rest of the his court. "The Caliphate is offering peace to the Romans. Whether they wish to accept, is on them. But in the meantime, we are still at war with Rome. And so our battle plans will continue accordingly..."

Trade is always welcome. But some people would say that an alliance with a nation half- a world away is, at best, pointless. However, the Caliph is not one of those people. We agree to trade with your people, and graciously accept the the proposed Alliance.
We graciously acknowledge the great wisdom of the Caliph! Such alliances become meaningful when there is a world between the allies on other ends, waiting to be conquered.......
Twenty riders, clad in red cloaks and holding a gold-braided banner with the words 'S.P.Q.R.' written on it with bold, along with the symbol of a golden eagle, arrive at Corduba. They seek representation with Rome.
Upon arrival, the entourage is given an escort to the Palace. Curious onlookers peer at the at the Roman display with suspicion. "We proposed to your leader an end to hostilities, and the offer was thrown back in our face. Why are you here now?"
The Roman representative, with an equal temper, speaks - "Because your terms were thoroughly unfavorable, my lord. We had offered a white peace, ending hostilities without any changes, and you rejected them. And instead you tried to force upon us outrageous terms that suit your own agendas but strip us of lands and power in the process, just for peace, and this is not fair. It was the outrageous demand of a surrender in other words, which we cannot accept since we are winning the war." After a sigh, he speaks again - "My lord, we have been sent here to see if you are still willing to listen to reason, and think about our offer of accepting the white peace again."
"Very well. For as long as you do not attack me or my allies, you will have your peace. Also, you will return to me any region(s) in Iberia. Likewise, I will immediately call off the attack on the city of Rome and any of your regions as soon as the cease-fire is accepted. We propose a 12-year cease-fire (Cease-fire will expire in 1510 C.E.)." OOC: These are my moves for this turn. If you agree to the cease-fire, I will of course change my moves. Again, ceasefires in EW games are 10 turns long i.e. 5 years. You cannot call a 12 year ceasefire. Besides, haven't you allied with the Sicilians, who are taking my lands and I will have to attack them in order to secure my position?
I don't know what the previous EW rules were, nor do I care.
