Name: Republic of Francia Government type: Temporarily Democratic (See Conseil des Maréchaux Françai) Official language: Middle French Other languages: Breton, Catalan, Basque, Dutch, Franco-Provencal Official currency: French livre Capital: Lyon (Temporary) National Anthem: None Leader: (See Conseil des Maréchaux Françai) Official Religion: Catholic Colour: Blue (0,0,180) History After the premature death of King Louis XI and the assassination of his son, Charles, the French kingdom has been thrown into turmoil. Many of the French lords have attempted to take control but all have failed to gain enough support from both the people, and the other barons, and each was quickly disposed of. Now a new man has accepted the challenge of re-uniting the Kingdom of France, Benoit I, an extremely ambitious character and superb leader of men. As usual, both the commoners and the other lords refuse to accept this self-proclaimed king as their new master, meaning Benoit has no choice but to unite his lands by force. A superb leader of men and has bundles of ambition, but not much of a politician. He has two sons and a daughter. Died suddenly and unexpectedly of an unknown disease. Pierre de Orleans - Deceased First son of Benoit and heir to the throne, and former Duke of Ile-de-France and King of France. A talented administrator but unskilled in the arts of war. Was announced King shortly after his father's death but his position was accepted by few, and civil war with Raphael de Soissons soon broke out. His lack of fighting skill cost him his life, as he was defeated and killed during the battle of Clermont by Raphael. Princess Elaine - (60) Benoit's only daughter, widowed. Smart and very attractive but a bit of a snob. Despite being the wife of Raphael de Soissons (killed during the siege of Paris) she has retained her position as one of the strongest people in the country and she is the only remaining heir to the French throne. Current Duchess of Orleans, and member of the Council of French Marshals. Francis de Orleans - (59) Second son of Benoit, and now the current King of Scotland. Extremely arrogant but an extremely gifted warrior and general. Clement Alacoque - Deceased Vassal of Francis de Orleans, and former Duke of Provence. Incredibly loyal, and a has a sound grasp of battle tactics, as well as management skills. Was captured and executed by Raphael shortly after Pierre's defeat in the battle of Clermont. Louis de Champagne - Deceased Benoit's chief general, and former Duke of Champagne. A skilled soldier and administrator in equal measure, and his loyalty to the King is unquestionable. Died just weeks before Benoit I, of old age. Raphael de Soissons - Deceased Family member in the house of Orleans, through marriage to Princess Elaine. Another naturally gifted commander who spent many years in the Paris military academy. Sparked a civil war by attempting to seize power over the Kingdom of France after Benoit's death, betraying Pierre in the process. His superior military mind brought him victory over Pierre in the decisive battle of Clermont, but his position was still too weak, and he could do nothing to stop the Prussian invasion. He fell defending Paris from an eventually successful Prussian assault. Jeremie de Anjou - (52) Another product of the military academy in Paris, Jeremie has shown great skill in his years as Raphael's second in command, and he has been chosen as Louis' successor by the King himself. Has survived both the civil war and Prussian war, and is now the Duke of Normandy, and member of the Council of French Marshals. After Benoit's death and the ensuing civil war (and then war with the Kingdom of Prussia), no clear ruler of the country remains, as both of the original candidates, Pierre de Orleans and Raphael de Soissons, have perished. But for the first time in a decade, the people of the land have reunited, to restore France to its former glories. MeetingsThe July gathering - The council's first scheduled meeting is to happen in the city of Brest in July 1523 C.E, safe from the conflict raging in the eastern and central regions of the country. Aims - To reform and properly re-establish the armed forces, to massively improve communications with France's battalions on all fronts. - To re-open diplomatic relations with foreign factions under one-unified banner. - To 'root out' any and all internal opposition to the new French council.MembersThe 11 members of the current council are as follows:Members Princess Elaine - Duchess of Orleans Jeremie de Anjou - Duke of Normandy (House of Bonner) Laurent de Fougeres - Duke of Brittany (House of Fougeres) Louis de Joigny - Duke of Nemours (House of Descoteaux) Thibault Lecuyer - Duke of Dauphine (House of Lecuyer) Louis de Mayenne - Count of Maine (House of Richelieu) Philippe Chevalier - Duke of Alencon (House of Chevalier) Jean de Feurs - Count of Forez (House of Paquet) Arnaud Maury - Count of Provence (House of Maury) Raymond de Arras - Duke of Bourbon (House of Favre) Alain Parisiensis - Count of Sancerre (House of Parisiensis)
Saint Henry arrives from Constantinople to here Paris and thinks this is not exactly what imagined Paris to be! huh anyways must find my way to see King Benoit I
Double
Philip de Orleans, the King's foreign dignitary, spots a rather confused looking Saint henry just outside of the Palace. He quickly moves to confront the man "Greetings traveller, what business brings you to the fair city of Paris?".
Saint Henry: I have come behalf of my king to propose trade agreement and marrige between our great nations to improve our relations!
"Hmm, this is a matter best discussed with the King. Fortunately, he is in the palace at this very moment. Please, allow me to take you to him" Saint Henry is escorted inside the palace by Philip along with a group of heavily armoured guards wielding Halberds. After a short stroll through the magnificent courtyards, the group reaches the King's throne room in Versailles. Philip asks Saint Henry to wait for moment, as he enters the room. A few moments later, he re-emerges "The King has been informed of your propositions, and he will see you now" Philip and the guards then take their leave, as Henry enters the hall, and King Benoit stands "Welcome, Saint Henry. Let us get down to business shall we? Firstly, from which nation do you hail, noble lord? Sorry for the late reply, I've been out.
Saint Henry: i have come behalf of my King Erik den Helige Kung of Konungariket Sverige. i have come to ask if it would be suitable to arrage marrige between Princess Elaine and Knut Eriksson. and propose trade agreement?
The King ponders to himself for a moment, before quickly reaching a conclusion "I believe it best that we discuss the trade agreement first, and we can talk over your marriage proposition afterwards. Tell me, what goods can the Kingdom of Sweden offer mighty France?"
Saint Henry: We have lots to offer example we produce the finest planks for construction and we have lots of Stockfish duo our relatives in Norway.
"We have some timber of our own, but extra wood is always needed, and we certainly need fish. I accept your trade proposal. In return, we can offer you coal, fine wines, textiles and an abundance of Iron. Will these goods suffice, Saint Henry?"
Saint Henry: Swedish people has once again reason for great rejoice! we thank you for this deal! and in future we might have some other items to trade as our realm expands
"Tres Bien! May both our nations prosper through this new deal". The King slowly walks towards the window, and gazes outside at the beautiful sunshine "Now about this, marriage proposal. Whilst I would in fact welcome an alliance with your people, indeed, it would help strengthen my position as the one true King of all of France" Benoit I turns to face Saint Henry "I am unwilling at this moment in time to allow my only daughter to marry one of your people, especially since it would mean relocating to the depths of Scandinavia. I would prefer, a more conventional alliance, if your King is willing of course"
Saint Henry: i guess we can agree on that for now!
"On behalf of my people I thank you Saint Henry, for your understanding. May our alliance last an eternity, and strike fear into the hearts of our enemies!"
A scottish ambassador in a kilt ,wearing a bonnet, enters the Throne Room and bows in front of Benoit I. 'Bonjour Benoit I, I was sent from my King, William Stuart ,2nd Duke of Argyllshire, to talk about England. In the last negotiations, you said you would want pieces of England. I am here to clarify them with you. What would you say if you would get all of La Manche's british coast? Scotland would get all the rest and you get All of England's southern coast. Here, I painted it on a map.' Spoiler Alert, click show to read: 'If you agree to this, the Kingdom of Scotland would like a Non-Agressive Pact so Great Britain will stay as a peaceful place.'
"I am glad you have come to talk about this matter with me, noble ambassador". He takes the map from the ambassador and unscrolls it. After a short pause, Benoit rolls the map up again "I'm afraid the amount of land you are offering us in Angleterre will not satisfy France's ambitions. Instead, if you could wait a few moments, me and my council of nobles will discuss a counter-agreement". Benoit and a group of six nobles disappear through a small door at the end of the room, taking the Scotsman's map with them. About 5 minutes later, they re-emerge, and one of the nobles presents a new map to the Scottish ambassador. "The council has decided to make this counter-offer. This offer will not only suffice for our own ambitions, but it still gives your nation majority control over Angleterre. We hope that your King will agree to these changes". Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
'Hm okay, I think we can agree with this though we thought that you've got enough to conquer in France.' The Scot leaves again.
You're giving away part of England to France? Eugh.
Meh, better than giving it to the Germans. It'll be a while before I actually invade anyway.
I don't need the Lowlands.
