First, I want to give thanks to our community and wish you all a happy holiday. That said I'm not sure if we had a discussion on Thanksgiving here before so why not? Growing up in my day, we were told the happily simplified origins of thanksgiving which in all actuality were quite far from the reality. I can recall in kindergarten our teach asking the class what thanks giving was about and as I sat and listened I was troubled as the other kids gave their speeches about the pilgrims sitting down with the Indians having a nice thanks giving dinner, almost like a fairy tale... I tried to interject being the conscientious observer that I was informed by my mother that the pilgrims stole the land from the Indians and yadda, yadda, things weren't exactly all that peachy. The teach sort of kindly quieted me as this was just too shocking for the rest of the children to hear. I can remember saying "but, but" attempting to finish my vision of events to no avail. Not quite accurate either in also simplified, but far less aggrandized version. What were you told when you were growing up about Thanksgiving?
