Welcome, Goode Fellow or Madame, to the Conservative Monarchist League.

Herein is a concise and well-considered archive of the names and explanations of those countenances which grace our League. Within this place of quiet and private discussion - a Diogenes Club, if you will -, we monarchists ply our trade. It is upon this platform that a new member may introduce himself, and make a mark upon the leadership of This League. Make your stand upon the lighted dais, give your full name, state your belief in monarchism using the creed provided upon the bottom of this document, and explain your convictions in full.

    ----

I am, as the username suggests, Thomas Hospitaller, and I believe fully in Monarchism. Despite my humble background of miners in Newcastle upon Tyne, upon the patrilineal line, and of mere workers near Kensington, London, the matrilineal line, I am a staunch Monarchist. No amount of coal strikes, republicanism, socialism, or democratic tinkering have been able to wrench this great conviction from my life's schedule. Though I was born in the Backwaters of Empire - Canada - and my family is predominantly Catholic, thus being seperated from the main body of England in a manner that is twofold, I am still proud to be of this noble Commonwealth. My staunch capitalist outlook, freedom-minded philosophy, and humble respect and deference to religion in matters of morality all combine to give me a certain monarchy-minded attitude. It is upon this line that I stand down from this dais, exit my role as speaker, and invite others to make a similar explanation of themselves.

    ----

I, ____ (in this case, Thomas Hospitaller) do, by my name given me under the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, pledge under Goode Oath and Solemn Promise to uphold those beliefs and public ideals which comprise, and are considered upon under the name of, Monarchism. I do pledge my allegiance to this cause, resign all petty distinctions of Faith and of Race in its causation, and I do here express my Sacred Conviction in its name.

"Mere workers near Kensington", eh Thomas? What line of work were they in, art dealers? Kensington is not exactly famed for its salt-of-the-earth, working class types...

    Anyway, on to myself:

    ---

My name is Andrew Courice. I am from the city of Lincoln, in the county of Lincolnshire. I am a Doctor of History, specialising in the history of the Knightly Orders (notably the elusive Templars). I have always been a monarchist, since my early days. In terms of the political spectrum, I put myself slap bang in the centre. I believe in Conservative morals and values, I believe in a balanced and lucrative economy, but I am also passionate about left-wing objects of interest such as healthcare and, even more so, education. In order that neither these matters nor defence or Conservative budgets need be compromised, it is my opinion that every effort possible should be made to restore the wealth of the country to a level where we can actually afford everything as we were in the 19th century, and not penny-pinch as we do today.

I am opposed to social housing in the 1960 and 70s, Wilsonian sense. What we need is not high rise concrete monstrosities that are cheap, but ways to get people to be able to afford their own housing and not be a drain on the nation. I suggest compulsory, paid community service, or at least some sort of work for the nation if you expect dole payments.

I regret that I am, more or less, a stereotypical monarchist. I live with my wife, family and cat in a four-storey Georgian house, drink nice alcohol, read quality literature, and form part of the inexorable bastion of the English Middle-class.

I ascribe to the Anglican faith, which is very important to me. I am blessed to live a short walk away from one of the most impressive cathedrals on earth, and it is always a comfort to have the opportunity to pray where others have done for nearly one thousand years.

I love my country, I love my county, and I love my Queen.

Nothing more to say, really, except the oath of allegiance to this, our Conservative Monarchist Defence League:

I, Andrew Courice, do by my name given me under the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, pledge under Goode Oath and Solemn Promise to uphold those beliefs and public ideals which comprise, and are considered upon under the name of, Monarchism. I do pledge my allegiance to this cause, resign all petty distinctions of Faith and of Race in its causation, and I do here express my Sacred Conviction in its name.

Ah, but "near" Kensington is not in Kensington. Besides, the make-up of various neighbourhoods may change drastically between 1931 and 2009.
  4. Rt. Hon. Gentleman
    Rt. Hon. Gentleman
Not Kensington, I assure you! It, Belgravia, Park Lane, Chelsea, all some of the richest neighbourhoods in the world (or the richest, in the case of Mayfair), all in that region. I am at a loss to think of where they could have been from near Kensington...do you have anything more definite?

To be honest, I really have no clue of the exact location. I haven't seen my dear grandparents since Christmas, though my interest in genealogy and heraldry began after that season. All I distinctly remember is my grandmother's words that her family was "In London, near Kensington", though perhaps her words about being mere workers was a tad understated? She is a humble old British lady, after all. I really must ask her to bring out the ancient slide machine and give me a better understanding of Buckingham (her maiden name) history. Who knows; perhaps I am a Fitz of the Earls of Buckingham?

Thank you Thomas Hospitaller for your kind invitation.

My name is Miguel Ángel and i´m from Spain, currently studying at the university. I´m not a good english speaker so please forgive my rudimentary language.

Fortunately here in Spain we have a Constitutional Monarchy, what i believe is one of the best compromises possible. While the king does not hold many powers, he´s a respected figure that works every day for the good of our nation, specially carrying out diplomacy missions to other countries. Unfortunately many people do not value what he do, and while not having much agaisnt him, say that he is useless and do nothing of worth.

I´m glad to meet other people who also believe in the many advantages of having a king as a single figure of the nation, uniting all people under the same flag and forgiving about all the political nonsense. I also believe that a tradition as noble as kingship should be preserved, for the own cultural integrity of the nation.

I must confess i am agnostic (thought was raised christian) and i´m not sure if i should make any oath of allegiance. I understand christianity and treat it with utmost respect, and i don´t want to offend anyone. I´ll do it but if anyone is offended just tell me and i will edit.

I, Miguel Ángel do, by my name given me under the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, pledge under Goode Oath and Solemn Promise to uphold those beliefs and public ideals which comprise, and are considered upon under the name of, Monarchism. I do pledge my allegiance to this cause, resign all petty distinctions of Faith and of Race in its causation, and I do here express my Sacred Conviction in its name.

You are very welcome for the invitation, Bucefalo! It is not your own deficiency to be agnostic; this merely shows that you have a sound mind and question the meaning of life. You are free to edit the Oath of Allegiance if you are agnostic. To say you believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, when you do not, is a lie to yourself. Be honest and truthful, my friend!

I should have made a more neutral oath, I admit!

Good day to all from the rain soaked lands of Scotland! Thank you for the invitation, had I learned of this group beforehand I'd have requested membership myself, being that I strongly support both the idea of Monarchy and my own Royal Family.

I currently study Engineering at the University of Strathclyde and upon completion of the degree course I shall be joining the British Army, much to the annoyance of my father who is a Royal Navy man. As such it should be rather obvious that I have a strong sense of duty to Queen and Country!

I am an Atheist, and in my earlier days quite the anti-theist, though today I tend to be much more relaxed about it and don't spend much time or effort attacking religion, the years have taught me to respect that it is a personal choice. Now, for the Oath!

I, Stuart, do by my name given me under humanity, pledge under Goode Oath and Solemn Promise to uphold those beliefs and public ideals which comprise, and are considered upon under the name of, Monarchism. I do pledge my allegiance to this cause, resign all petty distinctions of Faith and of Race in its causation, and I do here express my Sacred Conviction in its name.

I am Michael Muir, Aberdonian, Magister Artium, translator by job and historian by vocation. As a man whose fortune has varied greatly throughout his lifetime, from being a destitute orphan to the well-to-do internaut he is now, my political views have a distinct slant towards the necessity of government intervention and welfare. This, however, doesn't conflict in the least with my monarchist views as, if anything, the capitalist system can be viewed as a weakening of the monarchy in favour of the merchant classes. I believe that the present Parliamentary system is the fruit of both direct and indirect violence and gradual usurpation beginning in the English Civil War and culminating in the advent of the madness of George III, sealing the definitive and final usurpation of the king's power by the figure of the Prime Minister, and I would therefore advocate a return of the Monarch as an active, leading figure in government as a true paladin of his people. Despite my Presbyterian upbringing I have gravitated towards agnosticism as the only tenable position from which a man may make his stand, philosophically speaking. I have nevertheless the greatest respect, admiration and interest towards the Christian Churches, which is why I chose to specialize in Early Church History.

I, Michael Muir, do, by my name given me under the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, pledge under Goode Oath and Solemn Promise to uphold those beliefs and public ideals which comprise, and are considered upon under the name of, Monarchism. I do pledge my allegiance to this cause, resign all petty distinctions of Faith and of Race in its causation, and I do here express my Sacred Conviction in its name.

    Greetings fellow monarchists!

My name is Ian J. Porterfield and am a constitutional monarchist/imperialist. What is odd about me is that I live in Maine, a northern state of the United States, yet I support Britain and other monarchies in Europe, Latin America, etc. Therefore, I speak in a British accent! Although my father is just one of those workers at Idexx Industries and recently divorced my mum, he is a 5th generation Scottish-American, and proud to be one. My mother, although in her mid-life crisis of finding a job in this tough economy, was born a Danish Cowgirl! And I, with IMMENSE knowledge of World History, great in art, math and a freshman at it, am a Staunch Monarchist!!

Like all monarchists, I hope that countries such as my own, France, Mexico, Brazil, Russia, Poland, Austria, Estonia, Serbia, Egypt, Portugal, Italy, etc. will become monarchies, and usher in a new age of conquest! And to add to that, I don't give a damn about religion! (except historical crusades and stuff.)

"So upon this glorious day I, by my name given me under the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, pledge under Good Oath and Solemn Promise to uphold those beliefs and public ideals which comprise, and are considered upon under the name of, Monarchism. I do pledge my allegiance to this cause, resign all petty distinctions of Faith and of Race in its causation, and I do here express my Sacred Conviction in its name so help me Santa.

My name is James Rooney, I'm an Irishmen from Country Mayo. Despite being a proud Irishmen and an admirer of Irish Republican leaders, I have always believed in the sacred link between Ireland and Great Britain. I am very much opposed to the de Valera's declaration of an Irish Republic and the repudiation of the Crown of England. As you may know Ireland was once directly ruled by the British Monarch, and when it achieved independence it was indirectly ruled through a Governor-General and was accorded Dominion status. This, I think, was very advantageous to both Ireland and the United Kingdom. However, much bad blood between the two, fuelled mostly by Irish nationalism and discontent of prior British misrule, caused Ireland to break with England and to refuse to take the Oath of Loyalty to the British Monarch, and removed itself from being a Dominion of the British Empire. I believe that Ireland should be a Dominion, should recognise the British Queen as its own Queen, and live in harmony and unity with the British Commonwealth. I was raised Catholic, but I do not follow religion very much, but for my ancestors sake, and my family's sake I will ascribe to that faith.

"I, James Rooney, do by my name given me under humanity, pledge under Goode Oath and Solemn Promise to uphold those beliefs and public ideals which comprise, and are considered upon under the name of, Monarchism. well, I would rather talk about my beliefs at this time, rather than talk about myself, so for biographical info I refer you to my profile on the forum .
I would like to see a restoration of the Hapsburg monarchy, and the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation.
I would never want to force a religion on anyone -- I think that is IMPOSSIBLE ANYWAY, and morally unsound . ( it encourages people to become hypocrites, and I believe there is no such thing as a valid coerced oath. ) but I encourage the Holy Catholic Church any way I can.

Restore the Holy Roman Empire ?
    "Not practical ! "
"It will never happen ! "

? I have come to believe that you must stick by what you believe and disregard means. As the church teaches, if the means are wrong, no matter how "practical " they may appear, the ends will necessarily be evil. Or, as a Catholic Theologian explained, " If you start off on the wrong foot you will of course wind up in the wrong place . "

My priorities, in order , are these : God -Church - Family - Liege Lord - King

Notice that nowhere in this list did I mention State .

I have compulsively studied history since before I could read, when all I could do was look at the pictures. I am 40 years old now. I have come to the conclusion that 20th-21st century man is possibly the most conceited, vain, superstitious, and barbaric generation in history.

There are so many subjects to cover, I can only , in brief, touch on a few.

God, or biology if you insist, did pick, and would pick, our leaders, BETTER THAN WE DO.
    No caveat.
What Republicanism has actually given us is this ; the most adept sociopath always wins.
Under divine right you MAY get a madman, you MAY get an ordinarily decent man,
but you simply will not get decency or honesty with Republicanism.
Republican historians have gone to great lengths to mask the fact that REPUBLICANISM gave us Hitler and Stalin, that there is a direct causal link between Robespierre and Pol Pot.
You CANNOT have it both ways, there is simply no such thing as a benign State-as-God.
speaking very generally, where control is taken out of the hands of God ( or nature if you insist ) man tends to go into moral decline.

The modern state is basically a superstitious fiction, a false abstraction.

The real and actual "state " is to be found where the nursery has been located for 10,000 years.
That is, the primary, really the only, agent of social control is the Church and the family.
Whether recognized or not, Husband and Father, Wife and Mother, is a religious vocation, like unto the priesthood, only, I think, harder than the priesthood.
No state ever raised a decent human being , except perhaps some individual(s) inculcated values in the child despite the state .
Like it or not, for better or for worse, children are raised by individuals, not by abstract groups.

Schools of elementary and primary education at least, if not institutions of higher learning, should exist exclusively in the sphere of private property.
The public school can never be reformed except in the most transient and superficial way.
The institution, by its nature, is fundamentally evil.
The question that should be asked, but which contemporary man goes to great lengths to suppress is ,
Why can't we afford to educate our own children privately?

It is always asserted that Monarchism is Elitist. But as in George Orwell's "1984 " everything is the opposite of what it appears.
Class never has, never can, never will, disappear.
We are still peasants and Aristocracy.
What Republicanism and the State-as-God has done is create an abstract fiction, " Equality "
Which in practice means the Aristocracy are freed of the restraints of scruple and obligation.
Charity becomes the obligation of abstract institution ---i.e. no one is actually responsible.

Soldiering can serve a just cause. Soldiering can be a respectable occupation. Soldiering is only an occupation. The only correct definition of soldiering is mercenary.
Nationalism and its twin patriotism is an evil fiction cooked up to remove any limit to war, to remove any practical check on slaughter.
Nuclear weapons are unequivocal and self-evident proof that the State-as-God is sociopathic and suicidal.
What happened in Jonestown Guyana in 1977 was not a cultic aberration. It was a predictable consequence of an identifiable process. It had happened before, it will happen again, and in each case it can be predicted beforehand.

Criminal justice has its complexities, but basic truths can be established , and those truths must be aknowledged, cannot be ignored, no matter how much we may wish it.
Generally, I believe in public execution, and children should attend public executions.
At the very best, incarceration encourages concealment, cant, avoidance of fact in favor of fantasy. Every prison and asylum is invariably a Potemkin village, but in this case the purpose of the potemkin village is much more to conceal, than to display.
Conceal what ? The modern total institution has become a very convienient way to set the truth off at a distance, where we don't have to look at it, which makes it quiet easy to pretend that things are in order , when in fact we UTTERLY AND ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO PRIORITIZE !
    " Pass a law ! Pass a law ! Pass a Law ! Whatever we want !

The definition of law is : Force

What evil does incarceration allow us to indulge ? Conversely why has public execution been suppressed ? Humane sensibilities ?
    Incarceration allows us to avoid the fundemental moral question ;
Does the end we desire justify torture, the ruin of a man, the killing of a man ?
It is no coincidence that a society that at the same time claims incarceration is a humane or moderate alternative to execution builds nuclear weapons.

So many fundemental assumptions of our age , actually conceits , assume or pre-suppose that which man clearly does not possess ; omniscience.
Basic, general , example ; The State ( that is a group of strangers ) is competent to determine what is in the best interests of an individual family. ?
Sorry, but this does pre-suppose omniscience. And there is no way around it.

Taxation is a necessary evil. -----
If we wish to pass more laws, we should pass laws strengthening private property versus the claims of the state.
As a general rule of thumb, any notion that supposes the existence of a group empathy for an anonymous individual should first be assumed dubious, and the burden of proof is on this group to prove such empathy actually exists.

That is certainly enough for now.

If, by chance, you should desire to decline my exceptance to this group, well, I'm getting old, so I'm starting to get a bit more thick-skinned . An undue anxiety over popularity should be the entertaining folly and vice of youth.

    G'day

I was board and was browsing through the groups, noticed this fine looking band and though it fit to join up. I am a Constitutional Monarchist through and through and as far as I am concerned Monarchism, if and when done right, can prove to be an excellent form of government. Though in my own fair land this belief has fallen by the way side in favour of the Republicanism I stand firm and hope that the great institution can be maintained in Australia, Britain and all other nations that still maintain it as their form of government.
