Everyone boasts about Rome's greatness, the Legions, the Empire, the Latin language wich shaped the world languages... Well,I'd like to remind you that Latin has a crapload of words derived from Oscan. I'd like to remind you that Rome's fighting tactics were borrowed from the Samnites. I'd like to remind you that the square scutum was a Samnite shield. I'd like to remind you that the maniples are not a Roman invention. I'd like to remind you that the gladius has an Italic and Iberian basis. I'd like to remind you that Italic Socii("allies",people who weren't even part of the Roman state, but rather "allies",puppets)were most of Rome's Legions till the Social War,even though they weren't part of the Roman state and had no rights or citizenship. I'd like to remind you that the Social War could have ended with the destruction of Rome and the Roman state itself, had Rome played hard without offering citizenship to the Italics. I'd like to remind you that most of Rome's gods were actually renamed Italic gods and that, once Rome conquered the Italics, those gods were either eliminated or degraded to silly roles. I'd like to remind you that Rome wasn't such a great civilization, and that all(or at least most)of its qualities were nothing but the result of copy-catting an already existing neighbouring civilization. If you already knew these things, welcome to the group
