So I think there is now a majority consensus to make a fantasy world of our own choosing. So will we be making our own story line or will we be taking one from an already established novel like Lord of the Rings? Or will it be inspired by such popular novels?

So post your ideas for a story here.

We make our own. I can make the background lore, with time line and history of the Human race up until now, how they got there ect. ect ect. and people can say if they hate or like it.

First off, thanks Leslie for showing the innaitive to start this thread. I have a real life, and so there will be times when I wont be able to help direct this. so its good to know that conversation can be stimulated with me (thank god).

Anyways, I agree with Cels statement in a previous thread about taking the best elements from all sorts of different things. anyways, I think that we can do this democratically, no one person making all the rules or all the magic or all the races or all the anything.

I agree, but in the end it comes down to a person sit down and does this work, and make these settings to be proposed to the others player Or when the game have started, the GM.

true. we cant have everyone doing everything they want willy nilly.

Exactly, but it shall still be VERY open. Do people mind if i try to come up with a short Lore for Mankind?

Of course! No one else has offered to write anything for this, and someone kicking it off can only be good. one caveat though, its about as likely for all of humanity to be united under one Banner/culture/creed/anything as it is in real life.

The problem is that we did not specify the time period (technology) and in my opinion is not good writing anything until we do time period (technology) because it can happen after that has to be restated. We must first agree on the exact technology and than begin writing lore. We do not now how many races are in this world and they should be mentioned in lore of mankind. They had to at least meet with some of them in history.

    [I agree.

So, I was thinking(and playing the game Rise of Legends)...what if we have some more technologically advanced races(slightly steampunk, but not to the extent they are capable of sweeping away the less advanced races as I am suggesting light to medium steampunk, so they will have automatons, tanks, and the like, but for the most part all those are prototypes or have a clear weakness(Say they have a Clockwork Automaton, it is defeated easily by a thunder spell, and also has some weak spots if hit, it goes down easily.) But to balance their armies, I would say the advanced races/cultures, more likely using a Napoleonic en masse recruitment style may have better shooting(still, it will be a musket except for some elite units) but due to their lower armor, are more suspectible to magic and if the enemy manages to close, melee as well(In RoL, the Vinci(Steampunk race) standard unit, Imperial Musketeers are relatively weak in melee until their final upgrade(imo) while medieval/renaissance/other era culture/race may have higher morale and trained troops(takes alot longer to master a longbow than a musket), but shorter range(some master archers may be able to outrange a musket, but not by much. Say a musket has a range of 150 yards. An archer may have like 125, but the balance is that the musket's lethality is lower at max range while the archer's remains constant irregardless of distance. Just a idea i thought up that could combine some of the things everyone may want. Oh, and about airships..medievalish airships will have ballista and early bombard cannons for warships, be powered by the wind or magic, while Napoleonic/1860s ones are powered by sail or steam, and may have a few ironclad and semi-ironclad, while most are Ship of the Line like, at least to start. Also training of the soldiers will matter, not be like GSTK's that everything is reliant on the dice rolls for the result, you could get a poor dice roll and still win if your soldiers are far better than the enemy(but lose alot of men in the process), as an example.

Magic would be less prevelent in advanced societies, perhaps representing the people turning to science or industry for power over magic. Medieval/other societies/races would have mages at varying degrees as well(Warrior-based race= fewer, Tevinter Imperium-esque Magocracy= alot.). I figured the more modern weapons would be balanced out by the lack of magic in some form, and the less advanced troops being better trained than the standard Napoleonic-ish soldier. But it's just my 2 cents on the matter.

Oh, and about races..perhaps make it that not every human cuture has met all the races, like one may have met a dwarf race the desert humans never have.

Sorry Rosen, I think this is much too defining at this moment.
I will work on a sample world start after the following things have been finished:
    My Helios Article, Northern Mythology.
My Uni Class, Making Gif's in Photoshop.
    My Scriptorium Contest piece.
The Art Requests in My Workshop.

It was just an idea. NOT trying to define anything...just presenting a possible option for the game to have both magic and technology in some form, and can be adapted to whatever storyline that is decided upon.

    Indeed, it is a possibility.

Just going to throw out an Idea

    The Realm of Baravia:
Centered around Southern Alannia, and the Island of Isla. [The way I viewed it was Southern Africa {Alania} with Tasmania {Isla} not far below it]

The Kingdom of the Great Alan: a massive empire in the region that nearly had supremacy over all of the South, Until the Lueger showed up...

The Confederacy of the Mu: A small nation on the east coast of Alannia, once the only nation that had a chance to stop the Alan. those hope were shattered when the Great Khate emerged from the desert to the north and nearly destroyed Mu, the arrival of the Luegar would halt the Alan conquest and allow the Confederacy nearly half a century to build up defenses

The Southern Khate: following the Battle on the Almata plateau the Great Khate would cease to exist, while it is rumored that a larger part of the Khate remains beyond the desert, The Southern Khate is the only remnants still in south.

Isla: Currently gripped in a civil war Isla had survived a devastating war with Alan, while the war has eneded over 128 years ago the country was left devastated the Little land that had been saved from destruction wouldnt even remain loyal to their king, Soon after they Rebelled the rest of the Island quickly was thrown into further Chaos

Luegar: A relatively unknown people that emerged from the mists of the Western Ocean over 50 years ago, in that time they have secured virtually complete control of the Great empire of the Alan through diplomatic intrigue

Too early in the game, In my opinion. I think The Humans should start with one Nation. Same with the other races, and then the players have the ability to change history from there. So that out players start, relatively together, or we at-least try to make it start as such.

Hmmmmmmmmm......Well Narf, its a Hard Dilimna. Player interaction is one of the things that makes an RPG like this, or in fact, almost any RPG worth playing at all. if everyone makes their own race and nation, and everyone wants to live in that Race/Nation then Player interaction will be......almost nill, and almost all RP would be between the players and Mod NPC's. But, if all humans were of the same nation at first, it would be really hard to explain fully developed nations/races with their own culture and long histories and foreign relations just popping up (dont get me wrong it could be done, and done right, it would just take something clever to make it seem sensible). Maybe the Mods can purposely cause of a chain of events that happen which will force the players to have to interact with one another, and not just by causing some huge war where everyone is just crying "DIE!" and killing eachother, though that could be fun. Hmmmmm. well, I'll be thinking of a way, but really that going to be one of the last details we have to decide before we can get a sub-forum up and start playing (Which I'm really excited about. with over a dozen players, its going to be awesome, and thats assuming no one will want to join it after its created)

I havent specified races at all so far...just countries.

On a side note Kovov is right, there should a be a majority in each nation, but minority will have to be acknowledged as a part of each nation. Actually we dont need to develop the different races until we have the story built, and seeing as how separate nations have already been developed we can easily expand on the races anyway
Luegar: possibly Qunari refrence, Higher technology and plotting to take control, etc, etc
Alan: Main Human stronghold, comparable to your generic holier than thou HUman empire
Mu Confederacy: Mix of Elven, Human unhappy with the way of Despotic Alan
Khate: Centaur, or Heavily Horseback influenced race. Had to cross the desert so also very durable...
Isla: Now there is my problem, If human then it must be of totally different culture, If Elven then the Same thing must be true so they can be divided from Mu
The Island may have heave Chivalry influences developed in the south, with the north more based on a survival of the fittest Ideology, and the people there develop in that way, maybe this is the only places where race does not matter, at least as much as it does on the mainland?
    So Human,Elven-Human,Qunari, Centuar/Horseman/Nav'i?,Isla

Wait T_T There is going to be a nation proposal from Kovov.

Its going to be easy to explain the Nations "Popping" up. At least if people like my Human Race Origin Proposal. This is tooo early, not that the ideas are bad. But.. I get scared x) Let us slow down a little. The nations need LONG explanations before they are created and put into the game. Let us save this till last.
    The VERY last.

If anything we need to let ideas flow freely, and then compile it into something we like. we aren't even going that far yet, im just pulling some little ideas out we can use.

By all means, Arktifix, and everyone else, let your idea's flow freely. me and narf can argue against, but we would be debating as eqauls.
