As the dozen or so you who I PM’ed and have shown interest Already Know, I, inspired by the failed but never the less Good idea that was the age of the blight, a dragon age RPG, have taken it upon myself, To using my Extensive experience in both Pen and Paper and Forums based RPG’s to Create a fantasy RPG. A few, like Dark Storm, Rosenkruz and Narf, are working with me most defiantly in this quest, and we will form an inner circle of sorts who will do the real gritty work of making this happen. But this, friends, is where you all come in! Together, me, and the couple of others helping me can come up with a Good Thing, but for it to succeed, it needs to be what everyone wants, so NOW is the time, gents, let your voice be heard in the creation of this Adventure. I want you all to put forth Idea’s of what you want in the game. If you want, for example, for there to be a system for Riding Flying beasts, then Now would be the time to say it. To Stimulate the Creation of this, I am putting forward some idea’s, some of which can be used in conjunction, some not.

1: The Game could be Based off of Dragon age. Others, who worked on the hitherto mentioned Proposed Dragon age rpg will be better to explain and put forth this option that I

2: We should take some of the best Ideas of DnD/Pathfinder Rules (Character Classes and progression, XP and so much more)

3: We can use The DnD/Pathfinder Lore as a setting (Its extremely detailed, well defined, and designed with exactly what were doing in mind.)

4: We can make our own setting, taking bits from many places (this would be the hardest to do)

5: There could be a Dungeon Master, a Mod who CANNOT be a player, who’s job is to controll all NPC’s (non player characters) friend and foe alike, and guide the arc of the story and progression of the world to make it as interesting as possible.

Narf: I'm game. For.. Everything. But setting it in DnD... I don't know.. Anything about it. I once read some rules from it to see if i could get idea for Dragon Age rule but phew
    They are quite complex

Dark Storm: If Narf finds them complex (and Narf makes some of the most complex rules around, excellent, but complex) then I am certain most others would find it hard
First off, I meant taking some of the best bits, basing off of, not copying, cutting out and/or changing anything we see as too complicated or not neccecary. Yes, they are complex, and I wouldn't dream of cutting and pasting them straight from the rulebooks to be imposed on the players, but they have some good ideas that we can use.

DA could work, but will have to be focused on a specific nation (ie Ferelden only, not Orzamar or the Dalish..just the Kingdom of Ferelden), or the Free Marches, just one of the Cities(Kirkwall).

DnD rules..yeah, take the best of it and perhaps simplfy some of the more difficult concepts if necessary.

4- Our own fantasy setting? Could work but will take alot of time imo. But I'd say it's possible.

5- Agree. This could be necessary as then it may prevent mods who play from being biased and arguing over a ruling when there is a completely neutral player modding.

Also..another fantasy setting idea- Warhammer. The players are the Empire.

A Fantasy setting i love is the one from the Bartimæus Triology Books. Love it. It is absolutely fantastic. Also i like steampunk.. Or i think that is what is called. I watched Last Exile and wanted to RP it, having those ships. Two Factions waging war, Maybe being a independent mercenary with their own ship Uhhhh could be awesome!

Ok, so it appears that the first issue we must address is setting. we shall discuss and determine ourselves on this isssue, but first we will give Dark Storm, and others who would like to, a chance weigh in on the issue.

I personally say make our own, we can take elements from other stories.

I agree. Let's make our own. It will offer us a whole lot more liberty than going off of a specific fantasy.

And I wouldn't worry about originality factor, unless it's blatantly copying another fantasy. It's like my mother says, "By this time, I would be shocked if anything were still an original idea nowadays."

One : There are 3 Factions : Anatoray, Disith, and the Guild.
Two : Yes it would be awesome having the various ships and perhaps showing the shift of the combat from a chivalrous method shown earlier in the show(Battle of Minagith) to the more modernist style shown later on after the military use of Vanships begins (Vanship is roughly equal to a 2-man fighter plane)
    Three :Independent Mercenaries...maybe.
Four : There is also a apparent sequel to Last Exile that adds some more nations and airships I believe.
Five : Some of the other Anatoray Ships :

I would prefer we try to resist taking a fantasy and tweaking it a little to call it our own if we decide to use a fantasy we create.

So, far, only half of us have spoken on what they want to do (I vote medievalish homebrew). soon, I think, we will know what everyone wants to do on main setting, and, if homebrew is decided, then we will make a seperate thread to determine details.

True Rosen there is the Guild tho i think they are meh. I'd prefer IF this was made that they were left out. They don't.... Fit in the universe. It have enough aspect to do without it.

If we homebrew.. Wow... I don't know.. It will be big, I think it is better we make it something with planes, to hold it open to all ideas, So that if a new player wants to play a Demon faction they can emerge from a portal, elves can suddenly emerge from a ancient ruin in the forest. Just so it is left open,

    Optional:
I would love if we could play factions. But I also fear what effect that will have on the actual RP, controlling each ones own faction. Would still love it tho.

Another option is that there is a player faction and that mods control everything else, something is certain, it have to be a world in much conflict.

I am willing to create maps and simple map Strategics/Rules, which all even the player faction, if the players are not factions themselves, can be under.. I already have a thing in mind but only if people like this idea. or even bits of it.

Have you finished the series? To me they make sense.

Yes, a homebrew will be massive with tons of stuff and will probably take us several months to make a excellent finished version unless we rush it which I'm against.

    __________
Factions is alot like the World Realism games though. But it is possible, but rp will be less interactive as the players will be nations instead and focus more on war, alliances, trade, etc.

poor elves. unless they have Nuclear warhead tipped arrows, or all of them are powerful wizards, they are going to get raped by the people with airships. personally, I would rather it be about individual character than faction wars, but I to would be open to adding stuff according to demand (though, depending on the tech level, as said before, what makes sense is going have some boundries)

Homebrew? Our entirely own creation? I prefer that idea. Though why not steer away from the factions idea. Believe me, I soent a month trying to work out a Shogun rpg based on two factions. It was impossible trying to figure out how the mechanics would work. You either have factions with players seperate, and sacrifice RP. Or you have a lot of RP but sacrifice factions.

Weighing in here, I would suggest an approach of, races. We create our own world, have factions that are npc on other planets, But set our entire roleplay on this one World. People come from different races/planets/species and settle in this one planet. Here they have aconstant quest for survival. Do they try and establish their own empire on it, or conform to what is already there. Make it a sandbox, 100% anything goes, as long as it's sensible and it is there that you shall garner support.

Multiple planets? That implies a Space era made game unless each world has Magic portals connecting them to another. But I'd personally say we should focus on one world with all the considered races somewhere on it. They don't have to be seperated on different worlds for it to work. That and if the playerbase decided to never leave their planet, it would have been all that work for nothing.

Alright, so It appears that we are pretty much unanimously towards homebrew, but we are going in every differant direction for exactly what kind of homebrew. homebrew is going to lots of freaking hard work if we do it right, so, with that in mind, lets determine what were going to be creating so we can buckle down and start. With that in mind, I'll make a new thread for that purpose..

I don't like having a Steam Punk setting...and anyways I haven't read the series, nor do I even know what "homebrew" means, unless were talking about brewing some home brew beer.

I had an idea for this. So whether or not we go Steampunk, I think a scenario where we actually build a nation would be fun.

My idea is this- A single world order had arisen several decades ago, using technology that Rosen described above to utterly dominate all of their less-advanced neighbors. However, over time, without anyone knowing, the old ruling elite of that empire eventually became extinct, and the secrets of the empire's technology got into the hands of the empire's enemies. After a long period of warfare, the empire was destroyed and three factions arose in that period, all vying for control of as much land as they could. Yet thousands of towns and hundreds of cities remain without a master. By this time, it is fashionable to proclaim oneself as a King, despite the fact that the previously mentioned three factions are the real world players.

The player then, can do one of five things. They can join faction 1, faction 2, or faction 3, they can attempt to establish their own kingdom, or they can be a roving mercenary, fighting for gold and glory rather than for power. Just a rough sketch so far.
