I am just happy that people are writing stories no matter how they choose to present themselves. I've never been attracted to Alts myself. I couldn't face the effort of having to stay in character and not reveal knowledge from other accounts. Perhaps if I was more controversial I might be tempted. My wife frequents the Yahoo message boards, and things are a lot rougher there (lots of swearing and personal insults). She told me about a user who make threads consisting exclusively of him and his Alts, with the Alts giving positive ratings to his posts and echoing their approval for his prejudices like a kind of puppet chorus.

I am initially reminded of Robert Heinlein's wonderful short story By His Bootstraps (1941). This title is the origin of the word "Boot" (as in starting a computer). "Waldo" (for remote-controlled manipulators) also originates from a Heinlein story (of the same name).
