Yea, Brubaker is a fine succesor to Bendis' stellar Daredevil run. Murdock is defintaley one of my favorite characters and one of Marvel's best in general. The only problem is when you mention him to uninformed people and they think that Daredevil is synonomous with Ben Aflek and that damned movie. I also like Lark's art, it's very similar to Meleev's style when he was onboard with Bendis. Ed Brubaker, the current writer, has a real knack for writing more grounded characters like Captain America and Daredevil. Just wish he can do the same with his X-Men titles.

Yeah, X-Men titles have been very disappointing to the point where I am seriously thinking about just saving some money and no longer buying them. Right now I just buy Uncanny simply because I have been since the 80's. Sort of the constant in my life.

The art in Daredevil is gritty and it goes perfectly with the setting of the story and the characters. Its one of the few comics out there where I feel this has been achieved on a consistent level.

I just bought the 1st TP of The Boys. A few friends have been raving about so I bit the bullet. Anyone have any reviews for this?

The Boys is really good, its typical Ennis...violent at times over the top, some really twisted but its a good read. So far Id put it slightly above The Preacher but not close to Punisher he has done.

never heard of it. An elaboration maybe Cap...?

Brubaker might not be able to write xmen but boy can he handle Cap...absolutely fantastic ending to the Red Skull story arc. Best comic of the week imo and I love that Brubaker actually gives a damn ending unlike (yet again!) Loeb and his end of the Red Hulk storyline which was nothing short of one of the worst comics ever written. I wouldnt wipe my ass with Hulk #6...and Im dropping the book now until Loeb is removed, he had his storyarc to win me over and blew it.

    Dead*Man*Wilson
Loeb's Hulk arc is complete trash. This last issue was a poor excuse of an apology to Thor fans. I condemned the arc after the first few issues, but people were always telling me that it was 'too early to call it'. Guess not. Loeb has a tendency to play with other people's toys and break them. I.E. JMS' hard work at establishing Thor as a character that is more powerful than other. There's a lot more than just that, but it's safe to say it's complete crap through and through.

Speaking of Brubaker...have you read Criminal Danzig? Very sweet. Also, I might start picking up Daredevil with the intro of Lady Bullseye. Apparently, she isn't just reverse gender knockoff.

Brubaker's Cap run was the best in years. He really shines writing more down to Earth characters, like Cap, Dardevil and Iron Fist, but wavers in the face of the X-Men's convoluted continuity. Although the Red Skull finale was great, I only wished it wrapped up more loose threads. But that's my only complaint. I now like Bucky more than Steve Rogers, and thats an astounding accomplishment on it's own; though I've always liked Bucky to begin with. I wish Steve Epting was staying on. He was born to draw Cap books. Alex Ross (who drew the very end of the book) does a good job of replicating Epting's style, but I would rather have the original.

Yep that is major problem I have with Loeb. Thor's book is one of the better comics out there, he is a FORCE he isnt a lightweight and Red Hulk punks him out so easily...it makes me wonder why editors allowed him to do this considering all the careful planning to bring Thor back into things and as a credible force in the marvel universe to see it damaged by Loeb. He is doing it to the Hulk too...there are probably a 1001 different things that could be done with the Hulk post WWH that would have been interesting and he managed to miss every single one. Im almost betting its he is going to go for the pure cheese of it and have the Red Hulk be Banner considering how many times Hulk said "dont call me Banner" in this issue. Doesnt matter though since I wont be around to read it. The constant characters acting out of character alone makes this horrible. The dialog is horrible too...i wanted to rip my hair out with the exchange between Ares and Hulk. Broomhead? That is the best he can write? Compare this to the fantastic dialog in Deadpool #2 with the pockets thing and the knock, knock joke.

    Dead*Man*Wilson
His dialogue is one of the worst aspects of his writing. So all of a sudden Banner is back to caveman talk? I actually made the Thor losing to Rulk argument in another board and got labeled a fanboy. It's rediculous how many people eat this book up. It sells out in my store all the time.
  10. danzig
    danzig
The true fanboys are the ones who continue to pick up the Hulk with Loeb writing it given the last issue. There is no rational given to how Rulk can do what he can do and then suddenly gets one shot by Green Hulk. I mean its funny Hulk and A-Bomb are caveman but yet they figure out madder Rulk gets the hotter he gets so they should push him until he burns himself out? Well gee what if there WAS no limit to Rulk getting hotter...there is no limit to Hulk getting stronger after all. Its just idiotic nonsense like this and the ending...Banner (or whoever the Hulk is) is walking away alone in the desert with Samson standing right there and they want to stop the Hulk but do nothing?

Btw Ms Marvel was really good this month and some interesting suggestions on a post invasion world but it does so without giving anyway any real info. Really good character driven story though and Ms Marvel remains my favorite female superhero in Marvel universe (The Female in The Boys is my favorite all around followed by Cinderella in Fables...sorry but spy/assassin Cinderella is just hilarious) without Jean Grey....though they are teasing us with THAT one too in both avengers and xmen book.

Wow http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=7686 Thor to be directed by Kenneth Branagh! Interesting choice but atleast Thor is being taken seriously...Marvel doesnt appear its going to half ass any of their character.

I hope the Thor movie turns out good.

Speaking of Thor, I'd like to read up on him. Any recommendations on where to start? I don't keep up with comics too well.

Probably start with the current Thor series, its only a year old after his little MIA thing with the whole Ragnarok. The series is really, really well done...alot of things have changed in Asgard, the biggest thing being its now located in Oklahoma!

Def one of Marvel's best books. I know they have a hardcover out for the first 6 issues. Also, Matt Fraction's Thor one-shots have been really good. There are 2 out right now. Ages of Thunder and Reign of Blood. Good stuff.

New pic of Thor's family! Looks like Bor's spirit will not rest, even if it means letting the hammer fall on the new Lord of Asgard (and grandson) , Thor!

Haha man I was gonna post that pic too, it is such incredible artwork. Cant wait for issue "600" since they are going back to the original numbering now that the relaunch has been all around success. Best take on Thor in ages. And looks like Howard is out as War Machine in Iron Man sequel with Don Cheadle taking his place...sorry but however good an actor Cheadle is he isnt War Machine, he doesnt inspire any assocation with the character. And finally another week and yet another weak Secret Invasion tie in with Avengers book...at this point Im just wishing for the whole thing to be over now so can get back to real story lines. Im at the point of ranking SI as the worst big comic event ever

    Dead*Man*Wilson
Yea, I read about that Cheadle business myself. Pretty wierd. Wonder why Howard bailed out...he was gonna see a nice payday for at least 2 more sequels.

As far as Thor goes, I can't wait! It's been 2 months now, so I've been dealing with withdrawal. I really dont mind, it's done well enough to where I can stand it to be delayed a bit. As long as it's not Hitch/Millar Ultimates delays.

SI is average at best. I do want it to end soon enough, it wont be long now. I still dig it more than World War Hulk. Cant wait for Dark Reign. Apprantly, they'll be a new Sorceror Supreme, and the Punisher will be hunting heroes in some capacity; not to mention the Evil Illuminati (Illuminaughty).

Just read SI 7. Pretty decent. Definatley Yu's best art so far; though I still have trouble following many of the panels. Pretty much a Michael Bay style slugfest, but Hawkeye's killshot was sweet. I only wish he picks up his Hawkeye alias again. Ronin just doesent fit him.

Yeah just finished it up along with most of the rest of my weekly books...read Thunderbolts as the tie in with Iron Man *leaving* the battle and Osbourne I think all but assures what Dark Reign will be. Norman Osbourne, Director of Shield is my guess. While I liked #7 because it actually had action its still feels like its missing something...that was the Queen's big plan? As one of the other Skrulls pointed out if they killed Reed when they had him this battle wouldnt be happening but yet the Queen seems completely unfazed at the prospect of defeat. I mean I guess its religious nutcase thing but she has basically inflicted a disaster that exceeds anything the heros have done to the Skrulls. Guess we'll see in 8 what the wrap up will be with Janet going Skrull IED...my guess is she'll atleast die since the book does need a "major" death and Stark will be in ruins. How blew was new Cap Marvel's appearance...he appears in a great scene and then nothing.
