51 is suppose to be out today according to Kirkman's site, his scheduling sucks so Ill believe it when I see it when I pick up books later. Pretty crap week so hope so.
I'm looking forward to picking up the second boy of Ennis' THE BOYS when next visiting the local shop. Like Moore's take on superheroes in Top Ten and of course Watchman, I really enjoy the off kilter take on the spandex thing. Regualr mainstream superheros comics are rather lack lustre.
Well I still get a kick out of mainstream superheros but yeah I know what you mean. Its one of the best thing with comics that can and often are willing to take risks or go in different directions. I really like Hughie, The Female, Starlight and Love Sausage. How could anyone not like Love Sausage, especially his weakness/krypton. Starlight and Hughie are my favorite though, you cant help but feel bad for them. Butcher though is surprisingly disappointing, the character type he is is just done too often...maybe that will change but for moment its been there done that.
Love Sausage?? Wow thats an awesome name, i also read that theres someone that looks like Simon Pegg in the Boys comic, is this true?
Yeah Hughie looks alot like him, post his pic along with Love Sausage...crazy russian superhero.
Don't get me wrong, there's quite a few interesting spandex titles on the go, but writers, artists and colourists are so pushed on (drop)deadlines (while also doing other books to make a living) it's a miracle anytime anything emerges despite of the 'rush it last minute' system. Real income and earnings on them are a shadow of the good ol' days. Also, comics are now having to compete against videogames, CGI films and TV, the WWWeb and all the other fun cultural distractions. Once was a time when only comics could handle the extreme FX budgets req' for flying people, huge planet destroying alien-gods, mass space battles, future cities, crazy clothing and weapons. It's market size may have dimished, but it's still one of the most fertile place to develop and float good ideas. Reading comics draws on the right brain for visuals and the left for the reading. It makes our two brain lobes traffic between them. A good workout!
hopefully i found the real release date for The Walking Dead 51, its on August 13 http://www.comixology.com/sku/MAR082...ng-Dead-51-MR-
Well hope 51 doesnt read so quick, 48-50 besides being late felt far too short and didnt really have much to them.
Anyone want to post some neat cover art from other books to counter my Marvel madness?
New bookts tomorrow! I'll be picking up Secret Invasion 5, Fantastic Four and maybe the SI Thor tie-ins. The Thor one-shots Matt Fraction have been doing are awesome.
Ill post some more pics later for you We need the largest pic album of all the groups imo! And yeah tomorrow is finally a good week after couple of slow ones. After seeing Thor be punked out (yeah Loeb die horribly and stick your Rulk up your ass for what you are doing to characters) in Hulk book hope he goes medieval on the skrulls. Hope SI 5 moves things forward, we've been stuck in NYC and Savage land too long.
Not a huge comic book geek, but I've got a good chunk of comics. I absolutely love the Marvel universe. Punisher MAX is the last thing I read.
Verdict on Secret Invasions #5...BLEH. Its still going no where fast and it just doesnt make any sense, 5 issues now and waiting for the big pay off and I dont see where its going to come in final 3 issues. The way things are shaping up this only works if the Skrulls actually win or its going to be what's all the fuss about. Oh and not spoiling anything here but Obama and Mccain are skrulls WD 51 however was awesome, knew it was coming but still it was pulled off so great. Oh and Punisher Max is one of the best books out there Mongol.
Anne Coulter and Stephen COlbert as well. Yea, SI#5 was pretty...meh. I wanted to se Thor and Bucky do some damage. The pacing is SO slow. I still feel like it's the first issue.
Issue 8's cover was released, Thor, Cap and Wolverine on it...so Im guessing they are going to make an impact at the end of the series. Dunno if its going to be enough to save this series...dunno maybe we'll be surprised but it just seems like its stuck in neutral. Obviously Stark, Reed etc has to be taken out of the picture for story elements but we've had 5 issues of Stark basically vomitting and confused. Though is nice to see an angry Reed instead of one just pondering things. It just doesnt feel like an invasion and story just doesnt feel like its going to have pay off since so much is disconnected.
I have the cover of SI 8in the pictures gallery. The Avengers are still in the Savage Land. Agent Brand is still in space. And Cpt. Marvel was still at Thunderbolt Mountain and just now is actually DOING something. Have you heard anything about War of Kings?
Yeah no idea other then its going to be more on the cosmic level and tied into SI. Other then earth being under control of the Skrulls or Skrulls wiped out completely not sure what else would provoke such a big conflict. Guess we'll see and the Captain Marvell thing was just so lame...after all the conflict he was going thru on being true to what he felt and what he was a few words from Osbourne of all people turns him? And why didnt Osbourne seem the least surprised about the whole thing. For a secret invasion there didnt appear to be much surprise on anyones part, other then the Avengers no one had in comic knowledge of it but yet no one is shocked.
hmmm.. I guess they're used to these kinds of happenings. I read The Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar and in the aftermath of that, Vulcan (the third Summers brother) becomes the leader of the Shi'ar and apparently, he's trying to return the Imperium back to it's former glory. Black Bolt is apparently returning, having been MIA for awhile. Hope SI will touch on THAT in some regard. Throw in Nova and Ronan, and you've essentially got the sequel to Annihilation.
just read The Walking Dead #51, short again but still the story is starting again which is all i gotta say about that..
I liked how he took the phone Honestly I dont see how much longer Rick can survive, he has literally lost everything including his hand...his son is the only reason he probably just doesnt blow his own brains but still unless they find someplace with other people soon cant see him living. Kirkman has proved he isnt gun shy with killing characters off.
