I was merely trying to find allies to enable me to survive more than a few years. As you are well aware I am engaged in a war against a much greater foe and therefore am in need of the best allies I can get. I initially asked Scotland for a bi-lateral alliance against England as, at the time, they were acting hostile towards England (their stated aim was the conquest of Britain). However they then agreed a non-aggression pact with the English rendering alliance with them against England useless. I also enquired as to what support both the French alliance and the Grand Coalition could provide to aid me in my war. Just because you didn't provide the reassurance I wanted that you would prove a useful ally doesn't mean you need to be bitter about it. I believe your reply to me regarding war against England was that you would remain on friendly terms with them until they had helped you win the war in the Netherlands and then turn on them, "France, Scotland, and the Netherlands intend to dispose of England once their services are not required" were your actual words. This may support well have proved too late to save my country from destruction at the hands of your 'friends'. The only military support you offered would have been that of Scotland and as I already stated the idea of using Scottish forces to assist me was rendered obsolete by the English-Scottish NAP. Also some of your leading members were actively opposed to my joining of your alliance, even going so far as to advocate supporting my enemy in order to carve Ireland up between yourselves. Instead, however the Grand Coalition provided much stronger reassurances to provide military aid and therefore I deemed their offer to be better for me and hence I opted to side with them. I was merely seeing which alliance could offer me more benefits before I pledged my allegiance to them. It simply turned out that your offer was no good and offered me no incentive to join you.
Earl Wowbanger, I appologize for the harsh manner in which I acted and hope that you understand my decision. I must admit I became caught up in the moment and let my rage get the better of me. His most Glorious and Royal Majesty King Stig of France and Navarre. EDIT: My plan was to gain the trust of Tyrone and England, and then mediate a truce, perhaps with Tyrone becominga vassal or helping England take over the rest of Ireland, so that both nations efforts would be directed towards the Hapsburgs.
Apology accepted, Your Majesty.
So... Basically Ireland allied with the French after asking us for help? Gotta love irony
No, but we have no hard feelings
No, I asked each side and then made my choice depending on which offer would give me the best chance against the English.
I thought Okmin meant now, rather than yesterday or whatever.
Uh... You know what, I'm calling a vote. COALITION MEMBERS! Should we allow Tyrone into our alliance? I abstain due to confusion.
I do not really know. A lot of confusion.. And as it seems, not a very trustworthy ally... Then again,if by any chance you betray us,your forces are small. Therefore easy to counter if you make sides with the enemy. Hm...
Abstain due to confusion? Look, Tyrone is at war with the English. Spain is supporting Tyrone so there is an alliance between you two. Now, wowbanger aksed the two coalitions what they can offer. He didn't like what we had to offer but he liked your offers. So there you have it, the guy wants to join the Grand Coalition. Where's the confusion?
Actually, I have a better question. Are any of is in a position where we can easily send help to Ireland?
Actually, I have a better question. Are any of is in a position where we can easily send help to Ireland? Well, I am not taking any sides, but online as of now, so can answer this question... The Hapsburg Monarchy Landlocked The Kingdom of Spain Possible The Tsardom of Russia Possible, but very far away The Commonwealth of the Kingdom of Poland and Grand Duchy of Lithuania Possible, but little far away The Kingdom of Denmark-Norway Possible
Landlocked I have Croatia dammit!
Aah, yes actually do... Cheerio
Oh right, you have a tiny strip of coastline there. But I doubt that at the time Austria cared about naval operations (having the Ottomans near Vienna and stuff). The only period when Austrian navy was a respectable force was in the 19th century.
I could help them, I won't really have anything reasonable to do otherwise
You could, but I doubt you have much of a navy
I'll borrow that from Prussia and Courland.
They probably don't have any either and might become disgruntled
Who cares about their opinions, I own them. And I will order them to convert all of their cities and towns into dry-docks.
