Why have there been no films/TV of the ERE?

Braveheart wasn't quite accurate either the history was totally reworked, they just used a lot of real extras and people back then hadn't seen a decent history film in a while, the barbarian looking Scots were far from the truth.

Great thread. I support this movement! But don't you think they miss Eastern Romans in movies because of religion/culture? I mean christianity is this main european religion (in the minds of non sklilled with history matters people). And East Roman Empire could looks for such people 'strange, 'different' ,(howewer we could call it). I mean Europens/Americans don't make usually serious historical movies about history of other, far cultures and countries... And Eastern Roman Empire could looks more for east culture than european and in such ridicolous way they could categorize this as not good for 'our' movie... Anyway it could be also matter of religion- they didn't make many movies about russian history (Russian make such movies on their own) so in the same way they don't want to make a movie about ERE (they were also orthodox, they had this over type of culture- more eastern) so european/american producers dont feel good for such kind of work (in the same way as they dont make movies about russian lands).

Howewer doing such a movie could be 100% correct coz ERE was real and the one with the rights to be 'Empire' after fall of the West, and their orthodox religion was even the one which was (in my eyes) this rightfull religion for Roman heirs (coz in fact popes of Rome were the ones who were renegades instead of being lesser than Eastern emperors, not people of ERE who were later treat by christians in such rude way). The truth is popes have granted themselves rights not belonging to them (the best example is- Donatio Constantini). So Byzantion religion should be this rightful and movies about ERE are as righful movies for Europeans as movies about Republic and Western Empire

To be honest it i think its because so few people know much about the ERE, people barely even know that the Roman Empire was split in two, the sum of most people knowledge about Rome is Caesar, Antony, Cleopatra and only then do they know the little they were taught in school or according to Shakespeare it's disappointing i long for a ERE movie of a historical nature, hell a historically correct Classical Roman movie doesn't even exist, some have gotten close but what they get right they usually get so wrong in other areas, plain old ignorance in the significance and awesomeness of the struggles and glory of the time period is the reason none really exist same with classical Greece, i would love to see a movie or HBO series about Greek city states and accurate Hoplites, i love HBO's Rome, imagine one like that but about the ERE, i'm aware they took liberties with history but the story telling makes up for it in that case i believe..but still i think a nearly 100% historical retelling of some period i history cant be that hard! you just need the right people who care about such things and the funding, to bad Hollywood exists the way it does

Not bad for beginners, but again Heraclius doesn't even get a mention let alone anyone else beyond Justianian.

But, it will serve to educate.

I watched someone's edit on ytube of this movie and although do not understand the tongue, I can tell it's about as silly as Kingdom of Heaven. The CG isn't bad, the city herself is quite awesome in the brief clips where the cam spanned its breath in a sweeping overhead view from the sea.
