Timoleon of Korinthos has advised that he opposes the position of our group, and desires to challenge it in Garb's Fight Club. I will be accepting this challenge when it has been formalized, but in the meantime as it is directed towards our mission statement I wanted to offer those of you interested an opportunity to join me as a team. If you are interested in contributing to our side of the debate please step forward. When the details have been hashed out I will post them here for those interested in spectating.
Interested.
Intrested as well...
the Basileus tòn Rhomaion is interested...
interested. definitely.
i disagree i am afraid Byzantine comes from the word Byzantium which is the original greek anme for modeernday istanbul when it was founded by a bunch of Corinthian colonists in 667BCE from Megara which at that point still belonged to Corinth it was named after their king Byzas and was called Byzantion=Byzantium is just the latinised version hence any group to Byzantion/Byzantium sgould actually about its greek origins not about the east roman empire and its predicessor
Interested for sure.

...heres just a POD question...what if the morea hadnt ever been taken by the "Crusaders" could the Basileus have focused more on the east?
You should start a new topic for that so we keep this one just for sign ups, but in particular my knowledge isn't as good towards the later centuries. Though I do have the Alexiad which I will brandish when the time comes.
i was meerly pointing out thta it is greek in origin and that the name is meerly the latinized version of the greek name trhats all
Well there's no disputing that, but we are talking about a totally different period of time.
As i said to another forum 'byzantine' is a word formed by the germans historians of the 18th century for the eastern roman empire and since then unfortunately, has prevail to every history book.
Yes and we all know that the "Holy Roman Empire" was "neither Holy, Roman or an Empire" yet we still grant them the name.
So when is the royal battle of the ages taking place?
I look forward to this conflict. Ad victores, spoilias!

Good luck.Roma Victrix.
I'm in too! @kastrologos: nope it isn't the 18th century. it was first recorded in the 16th! I will explain all in detail when the battle begins lol
He's probably referring to the French historians taking Hieronymus Wolf's use of it into account, but that would be 17th century, so by the 18th century it's probably commonly accepted in the West, not sure when it was universally accepted by the Grecophones though.
