Yeah it's not really worth the stylization. Most (generalization) westerners don't understand and by westerners I mean west/north Europe, Anglo-American that the Italians and the Greeks are (as Obi used so jokingly to say about the Greeks and the Persians) the same as much as they are different.

To whom ever invited me to this group, your +Rep awaits you if you'd only choose a way to reveal your identity.

I suppose I am predisposed to refer to the Eastern Roman empire as The Romans, instead of Byzantines, as my Arab ancestors did at its time. When I was taught in my native language at school about early Islamic history the ERE was referenced as Al-Room (literally: The Romans) and that's what, I believe, God called this empire in the Quran too.

In short, I have other strong reasons, besides most importantly historical integrity, to call the ERE, The Roman Empire.

    Thanks Armatus.

Though there is one reference to the Byzantines I can think of used in my native language as an expression: A Byzantine Argument. Essentially, a futile argument.

The story goes that when the Romans were surrounded by Ottoman troops in Constantinople, they got sidetracked into an argument between the heads of the religious, and political elites over the gender of Angels in complete disregard to the urgency of their situation. Though this story was adopted from the Turks.

In ss 6.4 when you hover over a Byzantine fleet, it wil say Roman fleet, not byzantine fleet

Thanks for the invitation, as a story student i always try to avoid using the word byzantine for any papers i write. I think it is merely a propagandistic word that has sticked in historiography due to the heavy euro-centric weight of it. It is time to make use of proper vocabulary when discussing the medieval roman empire, and just by doing that, reivindicate that the end of the roman empire is not 476 AD.

You're welcome as with everyone else.

sticked in historiography due to the heavy euro-centric weight of it.
I must stop you for a second as it appears you have fallen into the very trap you wish to avoid by taking the crown (Constantinople) from the queen (Europa).

We must also get out of the mindset that the East was / is 'not' Europe, that the only Europe which maters is North and West...

btw, you don't need to be Italian to be Roman, for example emperor "Philip the Arab".
Even the famed general Flavius Aetius who was hailed as the "Last of the Romans" was actually of Alanian decent.
So even if the language is Greek, the culture remains essentially Roman.
