Hey Guys, I've had a long passion of reading/studying Native American history and culture. In particular, I love culture and history of tribes of the Plains and Southwest. I'm currently reading "Native Americans, An Illustrated History", pretty good I might say

Oh I know, after what seems like a year the arguments are getting easier. Yea maybe we can double team them. They seem not to post so much crap as they used to.

I support my Native American brothers in their struggle against white men's opression and I dream about the day when endless heards of buffalos will again roam freely across the Great Plains.

clandestino thanks for the wish but most native americans never hunted buffalo or lived on the great plains. That's part of what this group is about, education and showing the real native american history and culture and helping people wade through 100's of years misinformation, stereotypes and plain ignorance.

We are a diverse group with hundreds of languages and cultures more separated in language and culture than say a frenchman and a russian. We were often as alien to each other as we were to whites, blacks or asians.

Vopo, I have an interesting and surreal tale to tell. I read of your connection to the Sand Creek massacre in Ironblood's thread, and this jogged my aging brain to remember an obscure discovery I made a number of years ago. I'm originally from Ohio, my Dad's side of the family are all from the southeastern hill country of Ohio. About 14 years ago I was there visiting distant family members with my young family. We decided to visit some of the local historical places, we wanted to visit the sites of the late 18th century Moravian missions to the Delaware Indians that are in that region. So we got to the site and museum of the Gnadenhutten mission (where an infamous 1782 massacre of the Christian Indians by Pennsylvania militia occurred)when in the glass case of the small museum there we saw the name of a kinsman of mine in the ledger of an old store from that place, it was one of my great great grandfathers... the book was in the glass case, and opened to a page with this person's name on it. Now mind you his entry was from 1880, but he was born there in 1832, but this man is not a descendant of the militiamen, but is from the side of my family with the Native American blood, at least so I was told by my Grandmother from that area... I know, shut up old man you are rambling again. Just thought it was an interesting coincidence.

your old too huh so am I, so I can handle the rambling lol. Interesting story I hope you pass it on to your children. Stories like that are part of the essence of who we are as people. I think that is why alot of whites and nowadays alot of indians struggle with their own identity because they lack the knowledge of their own personal family history.

Yeah I'm a geyser, in my 40's. I don't like to think about it, but what are you gonna do? Yes, I agree, I wouldn't have even known about that relative if my wife hadn't been a professional geneologist (can never spell that word).

I always loved native Americans since reading a book about Sioux tragedy at Little big horn. I wish there is many more millions of you today with independent states where you have majority in your native areas or at least autonomy.
