Since this discussion board is near dead, its time to reincarnate it! How about we have a topic on genealogy. If anybody knows of some good genealogical resources for looking up various things on ancestors (please don't post links to the obvious ancestry sites like ancestry.com...think of more specialized ones, like http://www.icmacentre.ac.uk/soldier/database/search.php), please post them. If you are wondering if anybody has any knowledge in a particular area or knows of a good resource, please ask (and respond to requests). My current requests... I am looking for genealogy info on, #1, Norman nobility around the time of William the Conqueror. #2, I am looking for some good reference material on people in the English Civil War.
It's not dead, it's just... um... ya it's pretty dead.
Anybody know anything about any genealogical anythings?
I'll see what I can find.
Can't find anything really good... hmm.
Anybody need a genealogy question answered?
On my questions, I'm wondering if any of the English people here happen to live near Worcester? Because I am looking for some sort of decent historical record of the Battle of Worcester (1651). More specifically, records of the mid-level commanders that all the common sources do not include. On my first question: Is there any way that I could easily view the Domesday book? I was able to get a translated copy off a university archive, but it was so long that Text Editor crashed. Anybody know of where you can get it, perhaps divided into 10 parts?
Would you like a 1456 page copy from Amazon.co.uk?
Hmm... No.
I gave up trying to go back to the time of William the Conqueror ): So I will try to get good records on more modern history. Again, does anyone live near Worcester in England?
Forget everything I have said. I am in utter shock right now. I have just found a record of the descendants of English royalty in a Google search. One of the entries a loooooong way down appears to be for my great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandmother. My great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandmother, apparently, was a descendant of Edward I of England! YES! Now I can trace my history back to before the time of Fulk of Jerusalem (who I am also a descendant of, apparently)! This is the best news ever!
Wow... New stuff! Edward I was a descendant of Philip I of France. Yeah, I am on the RL family tree for France in Med II (Philip I starts as King of France in Med II, if you have never played that faction).
Nah not Worcester, I live in "The Big Smoke" mate! I do have a grandmother up in Worcester... maybe I'll find something next time we visit (which I am sorry to say is not often)
And as a final note, I can now prove that I am a descendant of Charlemagne. Fabian, I tried looking up Big Smoke to find that half of all the cities in the UK are called that
Exactly, you can never know where I am (London if you must know)
Is Florida Close enough to Worcester? Jokes aside, I do know that I can trace myself back to a Lord of a certain place in Limerick (Ireland) and with some liberal connecting, Ludwig Beck and Claus Schenk von Stauffenburg Also, how are you connected to Charlemagne? (please tell)
Who am I connected to... I have no idea. Who knows where the name "Scarus" originates from?
Nope... I honestly can say that I don't live anywhere near Worcester..!
Is there any history on either the Wills or Pionks? The Pionks may be called either the Pionkskys or the Pionkskis.
