If you were a Germanic soldier, wich weapon would you use? For me its a Axe or a spear
A bow. I like bows. They're useful and you don't have to go in melee. Plus I'm quite a good archer myself and I love archers (anyone one who played England, the Basileia Ton Romaion, the Silvan Elves or the Noldor will agree ).
I also like archery. When i was a kid i was playing with a bow who didn't came further than 10 metres (meter). But i also love melee. If i was a soldier my way were the best with a large axe and a bow or spear/javilin.
I'm more of a heavey one handed swords-men. Im a very good fencer I have one several awords using heavy weapons. I'm also able to use a ceremonial two-handed sword. I'm a terible archer (LOL). Crossbows are fun to use though.
Yeah, a friend of mine has a crossbow I like archering, but thats maybe more because i have some woodsmen skills etc :/

Yes, also Chinese, but China was far away from Europe and didn't influenced Europa qua Crossbows.. The ancient Greeks used a Gastraphetes (belly shooter) at Sicily and other places and also the Romans used arcuballistae, small ballistae to be used as a ballista and ofcourse normal ballistae.
Yeah Gastraphetes ... Sorry i forgot.. But the Pictish were also good in Crossbow; Although the Scottish suck...
