Self-explanatory title. Constantinople is the Roman name for it, Istanbul is the muslim name for it, and Byzantium is the Greek name for it. So who, besides me, thinks that it should be given to Greece and renamed?
I believe that the city must return to be greek, but not with the name of Byzanthium. Byzanthium was the name of the modest city in the antiquity, but for all us it doesn't have some meaning. Because this that it counts in our hearts is the city created from Saint Constantine The Great, when it built up this splendid city as the Capital City of the whole world and of the Christianity. And it is this role that counts for all we, the role that has assumed when from a city of province it has become "THE CITY", the Capital City, the Heart and the Bastion of the True Faith. When it has become Konstantinoupolis. And remember, the citizens of the Empire did they not call themselves "greeks". Never. They called themselves "RHOMAIOI", "Romans".
True. Okay, never mind. I just figured that, since the Greeks called it Byzantium, that is what it should be renamed.
I think that currently the Greek people likes to call it Konstantinoupolis, not Byzanthion...the "fully blooded" Greek people in this forum can refute me if I'm wrong...
Okay, never mind.
yeah, i support you guys!
I think everyone who joined this social group does
YES, YES, YES!
It should be renamed Constantinople again.
It should not be given to Greeks and renamed Byzantium, as it is a multicultural city(but that's still better than being part of Turkey). If Greece howewer gains or conquers or whatewer Istanbul, they should rename it Constantinople(as the city was at the top of its development ant greatness with that name)and restore haghia Sophia to church and crown an Eastern Roman Emperor(ecumenical patriarch still exists and he could crown him). There should be no genocide or depopulation or conwerting mosques to churches/persecuting muslims, not giving them jobs, etc.!
YES!!!!!! Think how it woud be,all the Turks leaving from Carigrad(the slavic name for Konstatinople, wich means "the emperors city"),and Greeks moving in........................................................................................................................................................................................
I don't know about the "no genocide" part...
dream on guys
How about this: If Greece gets Constantinople, the average citizen income will be affected by the average Greek 28.000$ from the Turkish 10.000$! Just because the greek government is piss broke doesn't mean that the Greek individuals are, the inhabitants of Konstantinoupolis will also suddenly go from being in a developing country, to a developed country. In addition, they will jump many places in human development index and about a hundred positions in stable democracy and violence per citizen. If they really hate it, Greece and Turkey could arrange a second population exchange, kicking those Turks back to Asia Minor, off the continent. If they really really hate it. The region could be declared independent and be open to both Turkey and Greece, settling the dispute. Also, to the Greeks, if you get a hold of Hagia Sophia, please tear down the minarets
One thing: I´m greek language student... the correct title must to be "Konstantinoupolis ellenike Esti" right? not "einai" which is infinitive... Am I correct???
Well i m Greek and as far as the title is concerned what LordKain suggest is partly correct...it would be like this in ancient Greek. In modern it would be "einai" and not "esti" we dont use it any more
It is so sad to see Turks build blocks of flat all over the land... Is that what they call development? And this channel next to the bosphorus Do they really need it? Where will it all end?
I'm in.You got support from a southern Italian atheist.
the title of discussion is wrong, the name of the city is Constantinople, Byzantium was another city, is not important that Constantinople was build over the former Byzantium.
I support the idea Guys!
