That's a tough one...
Maybe it would help if we had pictures?
I dont have pictures... but if it helps heres a list Pyramids at Giza Hanging Gardens of Babylon Statue of Zeus at Olympia Temple of Artemis Mausoleum at Halicanassus Colosseus of Rhodes Lighthouse of Alexandria If it helps you can also go to the wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_W..._Ancient_World Although there are far better sources... this is a decent one stop shop
That's the classical list. Do any of you consider meso-America or the far east?
hi guys. I think that Pyramids of Giza are my favorite. Well they're basically masterpieces with extra mystery related to them.
Mystery is good, but I'm torn considering the mystery of how some must have looked such as the hanging gardens or the colossus of rhodes.
Good day everyone, lovers of mythology and history! I am afraid the world will never know, it's a shame that all these buildings of great civilisations dissapear, by the hand of men or time... I have read recently that they are planning a new Colossus of Rhodos on the island, on the place where they think he once stood. Wouldn't that be the sign of recovery? I hope they do this with the other ones as well, especially Pharos.
I sure hope so. Actually, I hope they will remake all ancient wonders, and other wonders and buildings (like city walls, here in Amersfoort we still have quite some sections of it so restoring it would be great).
I heard about that Galerius, that would be interesting. My feeling is that we should tread lightly in general now-a-days, there's no real respect for land and history here in the US as there is in Europe (outside of US revolutionary history) we have Indian sites that are not given a whole lot of thought or recognition. America is like the world's sandbox everyone comes here to have their own slice of the "pie" corporations buy up all the land and sell it back to the people. Then the government takes it over and builds highways, all this saddens me greatly, to think of the great discoveries we are losing and will never know because of our expansionist ideals. <End rant.>
@Armatus: It's not a rant, my friend. You're absolutely right. @Phalanx: Yes, there are so many wonderful buildings and structures lost during the ages...
I really wish they would restore some of the old buildings and arts and such. I doubt the ancients would be offended if they went and got some new stones and put stonehenge back together again. So long as it's done how they did it and the stones dragged by hand from the quarry to the site.
Yes, like they're actually building a castle in France from the ground up, the way they used to do it in the Middle Ages They've been working for years now, takes hell of a lot of time
@Galerius, thanks friend glad to see I'm not alone on that thought. @Ulyaoth, the only issue with restoring old monuments themselves is that we may loose knowledge of very thing we are restoring once it is repaired or altered. Now if you can do it in a separate place from scratch that would be acceptable.
My friends sallutation fromAthens
That's cool. I've always wondered how cool it must be to live in a place with such great history. Here in NY there's not really much history, just a few landmarks only 100 years old too. There is stuff up in New England and such but I haven't been up there in a while, for all I know the whole place has been commercialized and ruined.
That's the biggest problem with all the historical landmarks and places, they commercialize it to hell, it's such a shame that capitalism can ruin everything...
Yeah I had the luck of going to a place where there was nothing.
Yeah, but there so little places left like that, left uncorrupted by the destroying hand of modern mankind.
Has anyone heard about this? I was kinda wondering what happened here. Developers in north determined to bulldoze Bronze Age site for villas http://www.cyprus-mail.com/news/main...14818&cat_id=1
