I never understood why is BM so much popular compared to metal other genre's . It's very unlistanable to the ordinary ear and has verry aggresive ideologies .
Behind the hatred, filth and disgust is pure gold. I couldn't stand black metal when I was 15 and didnt imagine that I ever could like it. Then I gradually learned to focus a bit more when I was listening and nowadays black metal is about 80% of all the music I listen to. And the Ideologies, well.. I agree with the most and dissagree with a few. Misantrophy is the main thing that I share with many black metal musicians.
Just don't get me wrong I like some black metal artist's and i have really no negative feelings to it as music. But the movement can be retarded and very funny to me sometimes.I wanted to say it's a lot popular compared to Gothic ( True gothic ) metal for example although it's a lot rawer .
Depends on the viewer I guess. People have opinions, I respect that. It indeed has a very loyal audience, though a bit underground. I have very limited knowledge of foreign (Me being finnish) black metal bands media representation nowadays so I can't say that I am really aware the "retarded" parts. Usually behind all that "They're retards!" rabble is just ignorance. Even the "satanism" isn't as simple as it sounds. I'd be more than willing to talk about mine and others points of view. It would get the long needed activity on this social group.
Don't know about Finland but here it's mostly the " TRUE " thing that i find entertaining . But as i got it Blackers ( as we call them in Bosnia ) hate Christianity but after that it gets retarded some of them are satanists some of them are pagan some of them are both some of them are pagans with nazi influence... A lot of them are very shallow in their beliefs,some of them just use it as an excuse for violence, they tend to degrade other forms of metal and music(The most annoying part for me).I'm not quite sure about their goal.I see no benefit in replacing Satan or Thor for Christ . Generally they are very arrogant when they are in place with stronger BM community . My personal point of view is that i hate any kind of religion but that's another story.
Every genre has their idiots. The religion, people can believe what they want, myself being antireligion. That shouldn't make people retarded. The violence part, that I agree. Beating people up in the name of satan/thor/jesus christ is plain wrong. And if they are shallow in their beliefs, can you really call them "True"? I think black metal is the best genre, so of course every other genre dont count as high in my books. The only other bands that I degrade are the "so called black metal bands" like Dimmu Borgir which sold itself out after 1997, and immortal which I never qualified as black metal. And then there's of course the Justin Bieber scene which is probably enough said already, no need to tell why its crap. I think you're talkin about neo-nazis who tend to get pretty violent (especially when they drink), and they seem to use the wrong excuse.

Band becomes a "Sell out" when they start making music for a living. When it becomes your job, you try to make the most money out of it. Then it goes to mainstream. Sad but true. Desricption of this social group says it all. And those "Burn jesus" fellows, sounds like a bunch of posers to me.

What makes you think DB did that ? It's ridiculous to me to think that one band should make same albums their whole lives .Besides didn't every BM band from 90's changed it's sound . Also DB can't preven't people from buying their albums.Ok maybe after Puritania they commercialized a bit their sound, probbably pressure from the label but it's still a lot lot better then most of the modern bands. I perssonally think they used BM when they felt inspiried by it.

(I'm saying mainstream since I don't know any better word for it right now) Then I honestly don't know if they suddenly felt that they didn't like the old material so much, or did they just see cash flow and maybe the label pressure and continued with the "new line" and turned their backs to the original which I still count as black metal. And after that began the commercialising that you mentioned. As for "Doing the same music for 20 years", It's about the listener I guess. You can hand me 20 raw black metal albums and see so much variety and differences in there that I can't even qualify it as "same music", as the other might not see any difference at all.
And if I'm not mistaken DB never was a classic BM band . C DB never released two same albums they constantly changed, later the change was a bit more money motivated (but not entirely) . The first line-up was more like classic bm with the satanic views and everything. Stormblĺst too was awesome album. It had the same idea. Then the change just went to totally wrong direction.

Yeah, that depends on the listener, but since in my opinion nothing can go above Black metal, it was a wrong direction. News flash! How does people like the new Burzum album Fallen? Sounds a bit more like the old material if we compare it to Belus. Varg has done it again.
