Gentlemen, the stage is yours. Discuss about anything related to the group. Favourite bands, band members, lyrical themes etc.

    I'll start.

My favourite band is Satanic Warmaster, as you can probably see from the pictures. Finnish black metal has always had a soft spot in my heart.

Vai että tämmönen ryhmä? Well i like metal music so I might mention Cradle of Filth, as a start.

Lord Aäkon Këëtrëh, probably the best depressive ambient music I've heard.

He probably made these songs while doing drugs, since he was part of LLN, and we should know what kind of scene france has... After Lord Aäkön left LLN, he simply.. disappeared, so did the albums he made. Can't find a copy to buy from anywhere..

    Thanks for the invite Galloglaich

Black Metal is not my favorite Metal genre, but I listen to quite alot of it.

Marduk are BY FAR my favorite BM band. Panzer Division Marduk is just awsome, and the latest album, Wormwood is awsome for a recent album
I have alot of respect for Quorthon and Bathory too.

The only good American BM band I know is Von, because I saw Varg wearing a t-shirt of them lol

Other than that, I mostly listen to Norwegian Black Metal. Mayhem, Immortal, Emperor, Burzum, Carpathian Forest, Gorgoroth, 1349 etc etc but there are some non-scandinavian bands that are quite good like Goatwhore, Eisregen, Behemoth, Handful of Hate etc etc

    Nice group btw

It took a while to write the description of this group. ^^

I'm pretty sure if you like lots of norwegian bm bands, you surely like finnish ones too. I personally don't mind the norwegian black metal scene. Media is too much around them and it kind of ruins the "idea". I'll put here a few finnish bm songs by Horna. They sing in finnish though, so I't might be a bit hard to understand. ^^

Horna - Tappakaa Kristus = Kill Christ

    Horna - Sinulle, mätänevä Jehova

    Horna - Skaldiriimu

And two songs from singer of Horna, Satanic Tyrant Werwolf's one man's project Satanic Warmaster. He sings in english. ^^

    Satanic Warmaster - Vampiric Tyrant

Satanic Warmaster - Carelian Satanist Madness

Satanic Warmaster might sound a bit "raw" but for me, that makes it even better. ^^ How do you like the finnish language in Horna? I think it's sound's perfectly evil and brutal. Though that might be because I speak it, so I can "fit the words in my mouth".

I just read the description of this group.. What have I done, joining this group? Btw I've listened Immortal, it hurts my ears. But Dimmu Borgir, one of the best. Is Dimmu wanna-be band or do you listen it?

Dimmu was good to 1999, then they sold out. Their music just went more into mainsteam since death kult armageddon.

I really do enjoy Satanic Warmaster's music style. The guitars are extremely well distorted, the vocals are gruesomely harsh and there is a genuinely evil sound to his music which creates a very "True Black Metal" atmosphere. My only problem with him is that he's apparently a Neo-Nazi. If you ask me, Nazism is one of the most anti-BM ideologies out there. That is why i despise NSBM. Black Metal is meant to be pro-individuality and against all forms of herd-like mentalities so claiming to be BM whilst preaching Nazism is grossly hypocritical. But either way, i still love his style. Probably one of the few good Third Wave Black Metal bands/projects out there.

I listen to mainly Scandinavian. Haven't really heard much Black Metal from elsewhere though other than obvious ones such as Celtic Frost, Behemoth and Venom (even though they're Thrash). BM is probably one of my favourite sub-genres along with Thrash and Death/Melodeath.

    Galloglaich
ISA Gunner, Satanic Warmaster hasn't been into nazism for a long, long time. Was though, and I agree with your thoughts. There might be some signs that would lead to neo-nazism, but he has stated himself that he isn't. Same goes to Burzum. Varg has pointed out that he doesn't support nazism. Did you listen Horna? How was it?

Favourite Black Metal bands: Impaled Nazarene, Bathory, Dissection, Skeletonwitch (if you want to call the BM), Immortal, Emperor, 1349 (GREATEST BM BAND EVVAAR1!!1!1!!!11111111111), Behemoth (maybe), Windir, Rotting Christ, Moonspell, Watain, Deströyer 666 and Dimmu Borgir.

Well that's about it. BM is actually the least of the metal genres I listen to.

Hahaha Arto, i must agree - 1349 is absolutely phenomenal. 2nd best in my books behind Gorgoroth. Even Hellfire doesn't compare to something like Ad Majoram Sathanas Gloriem or Under The Sign of Hell. I'd say Behemoth is Blackened Death Metal so putting it in either the Death or Black category is fine. Good band too. I'm not much of a fan of Dimmu Borgir but Shagrath is a great vocalist and i'm loving the stuff he's doing with King Ov Hell. Shame King and Gaahl had a falling out with Infernus too.

I never really liked Gaahl's work in Gorgoroth. And this is not just because he turned out to be gay, I didn't like it before that either. Gaahl was awesome in Gaahlskagg though. Hat and Pest we're / are the best vocalists in Gorgoroth, you just got to love Quantos Possunt Ad Satanitatem Trahunt. Though you can't compare that to Antichrist. That's just epic.

Dimmu was very good until until the Death Cult Armageddon came in 2003. (previously said it was 1999. My bad.) 1993-2001 it truly had the satanic feeling to it, and to me it sounded much better than it does nowadays.
  13. ISA Gunner
    ISA Gunner
I will agree that Pest is a better vocalist than Gaahl but Hat was just far too high pitched for me. Even by Black Metal standards. However i thought Gaahl and King did a phenomenal job in spreading Gorgoroth and making people literally fear the band. I mean, they got banned from going to half of Europe, weren't allowed into the United States, almost were sent to prison for Black Mass in Poland. I think they really transformed Gorgoroth from this reserved but awesome band into one of the most known and feared Black Metal bands out there. Plus Gaahl was a much better frontman. His stage presence was just awesome.
  14. Galloglaich
    Galloglaich
No doubt about that. Gaahl and King did much with the media. That's pretty much all they did that "matters" something to me. All I can say about Hat, is that I love his voice. Never heard anything about him in the media, outside gorgoroth or anywhere else. His voice just makes my ears bleed and I love it! But still I just have to pick on that media thing, excuse me about that. ^^ To me, being so "out" in the public, in the news making so much noise everywhere, just isn't the idea for me. Infernus did lovely job writing lyrics for "Rebirth" song. In a way so awesome picking on Gaahl and King. (Rebirth ov Gorgoroth rips my ears open everytime I hear it.) And the best answer they give in that song is "No media whores". For me, black metal isn't meant to be in the out in the public. I'm tired writing this post, so some typos, nonsense and some other random thing might be seen, I'm sorry.

Yeah i know what you mean. I just think its kind of pointless to be conveying a message of hate and rebellion against society and religion yet the people that you are rebelling against don't even know that you exist if you know what i mean. And i don't think they were media whores. They had the perfect level of media-friendliness in my opinion. Infernus was too quiet and reserved - never promoted the band. But those 2 did some interviews here and there. Not much though. So i don't think they "whored" themselves. Not like you see Gorgoroth merchandise at Hot Topic hahaha

Anyway, i just listened to Cartpathian Forest's Defending The Throne Of Evil album just earlier tonight. Absolutely amazing. Love CF. One of the best out there.

Carpathian forest is pretty nice, indeed. I just listened Enochian Crescent's new mini-album. Another finnish bm band singing in finnish. NEF.VI.LIM is just awesome. I can recommend it if you don't mind the finnish lyrics.

Here's one of my favourite song from NEF.VI.LIM called "lyijysiipi" - "Wings of Lead" with english translation. Enjoy if you want.

Galloglaich, what do you think of Anaal Nathrakh? I've listened to In the Constellation of the Black Widow and I think Dave Hunt is an excellent vocalist (better than most BM vocalist), your opinion?
  18. Galloglaich
    Galloglaich
I really like Anaal Nathrakh. Codex Necro is by far my favourite but I like every single album of them. So chaotic that It's just great. About Dave, I really can't compare to that kind of vocals for Pest's for example. It's very different. Still pretty good. I think it's time to listen Codex Necro once again. How I wish they would visit Finland some day..

Behemoth is atm blackned death, unless you're refering to their first albums

Moonspell is certainly not black as well, they started as BM nonetheless

As for Dimmu Borgir, same thing, they started as BM but since Vortex and Mustis joined they started to be more symphonic and are now labelled as extreme metal, which is a fine description since they don't sound as BM at all (I like their sound anyways)

p.s. this made me conclude that almost every black metal band that has some sort of fame will change how they sound at some time

As for Anaal Nathrakh, I saw them last year and those guys sure kickass, their gig was awesome
Concerning Dave Hunt's vocal registry, It's a typical grindcore screaming, not a BM high pitch growl

Anyone here ever heard of Triptykon, former celtic frost vocalist's new project?
