About once a month or every so often I'll eat wild caught alaskan salmon. I mostly broil it with garlic and olive oil add some salt and pepper to taste and a slice of fresh lemon juice) and serve it with steamed asparagus. Here's a link to some Eco-Friendly Seafood Recipes If you are unsure about what types of fish to consume for various health and environmental reasons see this link: Choose fish that are good for you and the ocean
there is a mediterranean red leafy green--- its eaten with beef and fish; I have heard of this and read it had many valuable chemicals within-- what is the name of the leaf? dark dark green with red veins.
I can't recall ever seeing it in arabic cooking, but perhaps ruby chard? It matches what you describe. I just came back from Europe a couple days ago and was fortunate enough to have several gardens of fresh fruits and vegetables to cook with, I'm not sure if it was the water or not but the tomatoes were absolutely brilliant.
I love home grown tomatoes. I am sad because I just ran out. I had grown a couple plants for myself.
You might want to give hydroponic gardening a try then... the aero garden or whatever it's called actually does work, even without it there are methods for having tomatoes in the middle of winter.
Well I would, but the aquariums in my house are dedicated to ecoscapes.
arma are you a fresh water shrimp man? ( for aquariums)?
I have kept Yamato Numa Ebi they eat algae, I might have a picture of one to post in my Aquarist group. But I've never seen them grow big enough for a dinner table haha if that is what you meant, these were just pets. What is your opinion of consuming sea food, shellfish in particular? I do not believe it's necessarily the most healthful in the wild and I have not seen organic raised shellfish either.
"Radicchio Trevigiano" Chaig. The red versions are excellent with rice. If you go to an italian supermarket, there are dozens of varieties of each kind of vegetables. The strength of a long history of cooking and agriculture.
I am glad the Italians have stood up for mother earth. After all they have a vested interest in such quality I wish American's would understand this.
personally I cannot stand any kind of seafood--dunno why, I take fish oil because I cannot consume shellfish or fish-- if it comes from the sea I will not eat but no actually I have several amano wood shrimp I enjoy them alot in my aquarium, Im looking to possibly gather several kinds of shrimp but they all seem too short lived ( big ones) so Im trying to set up ecosystems for shrimp who eat shrimp :O blah enough off topic thanks Ummon !
None of my plants are growing anything anymore, I'm sad... Maybe I need to leave some offerings to the gods for the next season. Anyway, all my zucchini are just sitting there, not growing anything anymore, the eggplant plant itself is huge but I'm not sure it's growing anything else, my Broccoli won't grow flowers, just leaves, so useless, tomatoes just have a ton of ripe ones in a big bowl, no new ones seem to be growing. My peppers and basil are all that seems to be growing anymore. Next year I'll have to get more Roma tomatoes and less cherry, 5 plants just leads to way too many and I can't really make sauce from them(well guess I could but you know) meh. It was a good year, need to see if anything can grow over the winter.
bonemeal !
@Chai I would love to hear more about your Amano shrimp, you should join my other group and post some pics, I had a link to his website, but it has been down the last I checked... anyway my green pepper planets have stopped growing peppers and I gathered up the last few tomatoes a couple weeks ago. I plan on expanding my gardening in the spring.
Does anyone enjoy stuffed peppers? We use to eat them on occasion, growing up they were filled with a meatball stuffing and baked with tomato sauce. I would like to try and switch the meat stuffing with a rice or possible mushroom stuffing if anyone knows of a good stuffing let me know.
I have them all the time. We fill them with rice and meat and spices and cover them with tomatoe sauce. Personally I don't like them, but everyone else in my family loves it.
Ulyaoth - Try bringing the ones that won't grow indoors and using a heat lamp or other lighting while manually feeding it nutrients and see if it'll grow. If it does just take it back outside and it should grow outside too, but if not than it's just luck of the draw really. I've had an entire garden (about 1.5 acres or more) of plants that just wouldn't grow one summer and oddly enough it was something that occured elsewhere that made them magically grow one summer after refusing to for a couple summers. Can't ever recall having stuffed shrimp although stuffed cabbage can be quite good if you make it right, beef version tastes best.
