I take it that the accent of Stockholm would be considered the "standard" Swedish accent, am I correct? How widely varying are Swedish accents? For example, an ex of mine from Åkersberga (which wasn't that far from Stockholm) said that people from Stockholm have a different accent from her own; not that I could tell, of course.

the accent of stockholm is not the standard accent of sweden... It sounds a bit like american pronounce I think, but not everyone in Stockholm speaks like that. There are quite many accents in Sweden, right now I can think of 10 but im sure there's more.

Hmm... in that case, what accent would be considered the "standard" Swedish accent? Like the accent of South-East Midlands is what we consider "standard" English or Chicago is the home of the "standard" American accent (at least, from what I've been told).

I'm from Norrland (literally northern land), so I use the word "börs" (very comfortable word might I add). And yes, whenever I'm in the south of Sweden they can right away tell that I'm from Norrland. So there are definitely different accents throughout the country.

    to dictatorfish,
they speak standard swedish in the regions around Stockholm and lake Mälaren.
Also in Örebro (where I live) The most people speak standard swedish. But in a lot of other towns in the same community (närke) they speak with little different accent. the only difference is that they say I (in english pronounce: e) different
