Forum: INVASIO BARBARORVM (IB) (BI)

INVASIO BARBARORVM is a series of mods focusing on the late Roman Empire, spanning from the crisis of the Third century to the so-called fall of Rome. It currently features RESTITVTOR ORBIS, SOMNIVM APOSTATAE IVLIANI, FLAGELLVM DEI, and VLTRA GLORIAM ROMAE.

  1. This mod focuses on two campaigns during the so-called Third century crisis. The first one starts in 270 AD, and depicts the struggles of Aurelian to reunite the torn apart Empire, facing off against the Palmyrene Empire of Queen Zenobia, and the Gallic Empire of Postumus, as well as to defend the borders against hordes of invading Barbarian tribes. The second campaign starts in 284 AD, and features Diocletian's rise to power and the forming of the Tetrarchy. In the aftermath of the suspicious deaths of Emperor Carus and his son, Numerian, a man named Diocletian seized power. He was, however, not the only one. In Rome, the elder son and designated heir of Carus, Carinus, immediately set out to face the usurper Diocletian, to decide the faith of the Empire, and to avenge the murder of his father and brother...

  2. This mod starts in 311 AD, during the great civil wars which led to the breaking of the Tetrarchy, and the ascendancy of Constantine the Great and Roman Christianity. With the forming of the Tetrarchy, Diocletian tried to stop the constant civil wars which had plagued the Empire for so long. But Roman imperial politics, ever the viper's nest, and the soaring ambitions of men, could not be restrained by laws. Not long after Diocletian's death, the Eagles were once again at each other's throats. However, this time the outcome will not only decide the faith of the Empire, but the very fate of Man...

  3. This mod includes 3 campaigns: 355 AD - Julianus is Caesar in Gaul charged with defending it against the Franks and Germans, while Constantius II takes on the Quadi and then the Sassanids. There is suspicion and mistrust between them. There will be civil war. 361 AD - Julianus is now Emperor and getting ready to invade the Sassanid Empire. But all is not in the Empire. The Franks and Germans may have been defeated, but they are not subdued and religious division is growing, plus rebellion from those within the Empire. 365 AD - Julianus now lies dead in the sands of the East. Jovianus has come and gone and now the Empire sees it ruled by two brothers, Valentinian I in the West and Valens in the East. But there is a challenge to the throne from Procopius, a cousin of the dead Julianus.

  4. This mod starts in 410 AD, with the Roman world in turmoil. Barbarian hordes have invaded the West, and threatens Rome itself! Gaul are in the hands of the usurper Constantine III, and Roman rule in Britain is about to end. As darkness descends upon the West, the much dreaded Huns are sweeping the East like a storm, unstoppable and relentless, bringing the Eastern Empire to its knees... RVINA ROMAE covers the same era as FLAGELLVM DEI, but features an all new campaign experience, including all new units, buildings, interfaces and much, much more. No stone has been left unturned in this final version of the original IB mod.

  5. Also known as Rio's IB BRG, featuring two campaigns: 463AD on the decline and the eventual collapse of the Roman Empire in the West; and 434 AD with the Huns on the outskirts of the Empire and about to conquer the world. After a crushing defeat at Adrianople in 378AD, the Roman Empire for the first time dealt within their borders with a barbarian people not on their own terms. Through the 5th century the West continued to bend and crack from wave after wave of new inhabitants and was helpless to stop it. The restless barbarians at times sensing weakness, felt it no longer necessary to act as Roman foederati and began to expand and claim new lands for themselves. Under their trampling feet lay all that was once Roman and all that was once great. From the ashes, could there still rise the ideals of Rome? Possibly a restoration of former glory? Or even Beyond Roman Glory?

  6. This mod starts in 527 AD. The West has fallen. The city of Rome is now in the hands of the powerful Ostrogoths, and the rest of western Europe is firmly ruled by Germanic successor kingdoms who all vie for greater and greater power. But in the East the light of Rome still burns brightly. In the city of Constantinople, the New Rome, the memory of Roman greatness remains. On its Imperial throne sits a man named Justinian, and he's ready to embark on a quest to reconquer all the lands that once belonged to Rome, and to unite its people under the banner of the one true God... This mod also features two additional campaigns: Mauricius in 591 AD, and Heraclius in 622 AD.
