Is this mod dead?

That's probably the most often seen question in some of the hosted mod forums, and it's certainly been a popular question in our M2TW mod Princes, Kings and Heroes' section.

Well, now the answer is "Maybe not"! After about a decade of the mod 'resting', like Monty Python's parrot, whilst wilddog and I worked on IWTE or messed about on other people's mods, PKH could be making a come back!

(Part of the point of starting a 'developers blog' here is to make myself accountable for actually getting on with it!)

The reasons for re-starting, apart from our recent issue of being stuck at home more, due to the coronavirus lockdown, are a couple of other developments that now make completing the mod a more promising prospect:

One is the M2TW Engine Overhaul Project which can fix some previously hard-coded issues by use of memory editing.

The other is that wilddog has got IWTE to a point where we can create custom anims for building objects, and is also getting close to the point where we can export whole settlements to Blender, and back. (The 'back' is the bit that's taking a bit more time, getting into Blender via a Collada import is fine, working out what to do with any slightly mangled stuff a user might send back is more difficult)

For PKH this would mean we can create walls of a more realistic width, at most 4m wide instead of the current 8m, and still have animated transitions for them. It will also mean we will probably redo all the WIP settlements we had so far, so it might still be another decade before the mod gets released...

is this related to what Zaratos was doing back at the time?

The current memory editing is not affiliated with nor does it continue the old projects.
