  1. Perks of passing 50

It's been a while since I passed the magic five-zero and in looking back I could not help but list the advantages that have opened up to folks like me:

    • In a hostage situation, you are likely to be released first.
    • Kidnappers are not very interested in you.
    • No one expects you to run - anywhere.
    • People call at 9 PM and ask, "Did I wake you?"
    • People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.
    • There is nothing left to learn the hard way.
    • Things

  2. Turtles and Politicians

A couple of days ago I was sitting at the bar with my friend Andreas, catching up on recent events (he is a long distance trucker and has some riveting stories to tell) and inevitably ended up discussing the recent elections and the abilities (and lack thereof) of the elected politicians.

  4. Hands on Integration

I smiled and told him I was not paralyzed.

The Rabbi came, laid his hands on my hand and said, “By the will of God Almighty, you will walk today!

I was less amused when I told him there was nothing wrong with me.

The Mullah came, took my hands and said, “Insha Allah, ...

  5. Loving my Dog and loosing Weight

Yesterday I was at my local Woolworth store buying a large bag of “My Dog” dog food for my loyal pet and was in the checkout queue when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog.

What did she think I had an elephant? So, since I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Dog Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn’t, because I ended up in hospital last time, but I'd lost 10 kilograms before I woke up in intensive care with ...
