Rome

Rome is the Eternal city of the Seven Hills, founded by Romulus in the 8th century BC as the capital city of his new kingdom. However after 250 years of oppressive rule by the Kings of Rome, the people rose up and threw out the Kings, many of whom were Etruscan. Thus the Roman republic was formed. This was the age in which a vast territory was conquered in the name of Rome. However in 48BC one of the greatest generals in history, Gaius Julius Caesar, defeated Pompey the Great at Pharsalus. This ended the reign of the 500 year old republic and Ceasar's successor Octavian(Augustus) became the first Emperor.
