Following on from the last preview for Europa Barbarorum II, the EB Team are proud to present the People of North Africa. Taking a look at some of the cultures of this important area of the ancient world, and how that will be represented in the game, this preview also show-cases some of the fantastic units that will appear as regionals for a number of different factions.
Nine new maps now await your pleasure for the ETW engine. The Lordz Modding Collective has update the pre-existing Lordz map pack and it may be downloaded on the TWC here. Install instructions are the same as before, as is a guide to remove the restrictions placed on these maps while using modifications. These too may be found on the above link. Enjoy!
Today we are proud to present the faction, Mamla'ha biMassylim (The Kingdom of Massylia). Its been a long-time coming, but it is a faction that we couldn't leave out. A great enemy of the Qarthadastim, their nomadic beginnings will offer a very different game-style to other factions in that part of the world. Eventually, however, they will settle and develop their infantry - perhaps even, as in history, under the patronage of the Roman Republic.
The Qarthadastim Empire has a new enemy at its doorstep, and from the depths of North Africa they will come.
For a long time, there has been no mayor updates from the L'Outremer based team. But finally it is now time for a new preview.

Progress on dHHR 0.8 is running strong, but to reach our ambitious goals and to do so in time, we will need your help. To get a first glimpse what is awaiting you, have a look at our previews
These only show a small percentage of what we aspire to bring the times of high medieval emperors to life again. So, what can you do to make this possible?
Scripting:
The mechanisms behind the screen have always been heart and soul of dHHR and will be so in future. Our reverend founder and hithero scripter Dimitri_Harkov has gone into semi-retirement, but will stand by us when we will start our most ambitious scripting project: The Investiture Controversy . Be prepared to see lords and bishops taking sides for Pope or Emperor, Imperium or Sacerdotium.
As a scripter in our team, you will need a basic knowledge about the scripting landscape of MTW2 and an unbreakable will to bring up and overthrow new ideas til they weep work. Our scripter konny and of course our Grand Master Dimitri_Harkov will share their ideas and help you in every trouble, to make one who came to scripting as a timid mouse going out as a braggart bear.
Coding:
Future changes will also be made to our recruitment-, building- and combat system, to improve the unique management and "Knight Realism" of dHHR. So, if you ever had a look into EDB and EDU - and you are knowing what i am actually talking about - consider yourself dHHR's upoming next coder.
Mapping:
Though our map will not change considerably, there are always things to do: Rivers to be shifted, cities to be moved, borders to be corrected... all the things you do in everyday's life. Ever had the feeling we mistreated the border of your living place? Then do something about it!
Modelling/Skinning:
Though we would never judge anything as important as the inner values, we are no loathers of beauty, either. All persons sharing our feelings - and having, by chance, skills which apply to textures and models - will be welcome. Don't hesitate because you are a beginner, you can only improve. Our artists DerDiskuswerfer and my humble self will lend you a helping hand in stepping into a wonderful new world of pixels and polygons, where everything is possible - save for giving you back the life you will waste with us.
By the way, who needs a live when he can meet Mathilda ?
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Italian bred, fierce even in unwomanly doings - and not even the pope dares to fuss with her!
Researchers:
Hand on heart, who's not a history geek here, or at least pretends? Doing the only useful thing you can do with this attitude, we always try to have fun first and abuse history as little as possible.
Though being scantly washed nerds ourselves, there are always gaps we'd like to fill in - history wise, of course. Have a knack about eastern Europe or the Iberian peninsula? Apply! Been in history courses at the university and have no idea why you've learned to research? We will kiss the floor you look at and throw all other candidates out the door for you.
Beta Testing:
Last but not least, in fact best: All members of dHHR are automatically beta testers, who will see every new idea as soon as it got wings and lay hands on new content first.
Got interested? Drop a PM at either konny or HannibalExMachina to come just a little bit closer to the Candy Shop.
And as little thank you for straining your eyes with all the above, a little preview of our new Strat Map Models:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
from left to right: Leader, Heir, General, Captain
Austria Saxony Sicily
Denmark Scotland Franconia
note that the faction symbols will be changed accordingly.
So far, we have also added and revised some 1,000 German and French names, for example these will be your loyal supporters when playing with Swabia in dHRR 0.8:

All you modders out there looking for music for your mods take note now. Jones King is back with a demo teaser for the imminent release of his next album, entitled ‘Chronicles of Arcus III: The Pilgrim Prophecy’. COA III is, as the name suggests, the third in his series of soundtracks chronicling the fictional world of Arcus. These albums are free for modders, and others, to use in their creations, provided they credit the artist and don’t use the tracks for commercial purposes. This demo consists of three songs:
Let there be much rejoicing (eating of minstrels will be frowned upon), as the ChivTW team have just announced the release of ‘Chivalry I: Total War’ v1.0! This total conversion project for ‘Rome: Total War’, started way back in 2004, transforms the game into a wholly unique and immersive medieval experience. Starting in the Year of Our Lord 1072 the mod’s main campaign - called ‘The Rise of the Knighthood’ - lets you choose from 20 factions, ranging from the Byzantines in the east to the English in the west. In addition there is a provincial campaign available, ‘The Crusader Epoche’, which starts in AD 1099, and this 1.0 release also contains a reworked version of the Battle of Hastings historical battle. Read more and download in the release thread.
The most popular modification of the popular RTW mod Europa Barbarorum is finally out. Enjoy the diversity of units and armies and the game balance using the AI of the Alexanader expansion, tens of new units and overall rebalance of the world. New Chinese rebel faction and far eastern flavour of new unique models for generals and units. Fight for the world that will not allow you to advance unless you are tough enough.
The hardest and most challenging to play modification of EB will bring hard core veterans to new challenges while new players will fall in love with the mod that will re-shape their perspective of RTW.
Fan of the Thracians? Love the Basternae in ‘Rome’? Got «Thracia 4 Ever» tattooed on your bottom? If you can say «Yea» to at least one of the above you’re going to love SubRosa’s ‘Thrace: The Serpent Reborn’. No one will ever describe Thrace in vanilla ‘Rome: Total War’ as being a fully fleshed out faction, which is what this small (only about 12MB) mod is trying to remedy. It specifically adds more units and revamps some of the existing ones, and also gives you more temples (Kotys, Bendis, Sabazios) & ancillaries. There is also a mystery legendary artifact you can get for one of your generals. More information, screenshots and the download link can be found here.
Thrace: The Serpent Reborn - Basternae
‘Thrace: The Serpent Reborn’ is, in fact, just a small part of SubRosa’s main project, ‘Amazon: Total War’, which adds three new factions: Amazonia, New Amazonia and the Gorgons. If fierce warrior-women gets your juices flowing this is most definitely the mod for you. Both TtSR and Amazon are mods for ‘Rome: Total War’ v1.5, and the latter also has a version for ‘Barbarian Invasion’ v1.6. You can find out more about ATW here.
‘Wrath of the Norsemen’ are back with a new preview and this time we’re getting a look at the Sweþiuð (or Swedes), and their roster featuring units such as the Huskarlar and the Landsmenn. Check out the preview here, and don’t miss the video below:
Take a look at our Fourth Preview, which is devoted to showcasing Paeninsula Italica's new map, as well as some of the unit screenshots, and interfaces.
Features include:
A brand new map reworked from scratch
Realistic mountains, hills, and valleys
Revolutionary smooth coastal contours
A high-def 510x510 map size, one of the largest in all of TW history
The famous battlefield of Thermopylae comes to M2TW with Thermopylae Map 1.0, a brand new and huge historical battle map, playable with vanilla game as well as mods (using Byzantines and Turks as 'placeholder units'). The result of weeks of hard editing and modelling of the landscape, the Thermopylae 1.0 map is divided in two main thatres: the Thermopylae Pass close to the shore and the Anopaia path, hidden by mountains... the passage that your enemies will try to cross and outflank you!
«Once, there was a great king. Charles the Great, Charles Magnus, Charlemagne. A Frank, yet a Roman Emperor, who restored the Empire of the West, and returned the Roman Empire to its rightful capital, away from the decadent and effeminate Greeks. But Charlemagne has been dead for nearly a century now. And the Roman Empire of the West remains a dream.»
Golden Ages: Total War - Carolingian Spatamen

"Viking Invasion II: The Expansion Pack Medieval II Never Got"
Viking Invasion II has taken the slot as the main feature in the Downloader section of this month's issue of Britain's best-selling PC games magazine, PCGamer (February 2009, Issue 197, p. 80).
"This is about as good a Christmas present as the Total War community could hope for. It's the revered Viking Invasion expansion for the original, aged Medieval: TW, remade for the prettier Rome: TW - The Barbarian Invasion" the article begins.
The mod, the development of which went on in secret at Halie Satanus's In The Shade forums, took form quickly and Halie, Antagonist, DaVinci, Aradan, and Uranos all chipped in with support. Aradan became a lifesaver during the development of the mod and single-handedly did the ancs, traits, unit balance, and campaign balance; even helping out the beleagured MasterOfNone with a good part of the input for the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle!
"The scale of the thing is incredible," PCGamer goes on to write, "and it grants Rome a seriously different feel."
For more details and to read the full "scoop" visit the VI2 thread here.
TheLatinokratia:Rebuilding the Empireteam is glad to announce to the TWC community, that the first Latinokratia preview is out. Click here to visit the preview thread!
1143 is a mod about Reconquista that focuses in Iberian Peninsula and North Africa, starting in 1143 and concluding in 1492.
The features include a completely new map with 46 conquerable regions, six playable factions (Kingdom of Portugal, Kingdom of Castile & Leon, Crown of Aragon, Kingdom of Navarre, the Almohads and the Almoravids), two emergent factions (the Marinids and the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada), new titles, new units, several flags for the same faction, a brand new script, new AI, etc…
"In truth neither from the Samnites, nor the Carthaginians, nor from both Spains, nor from all the nations of gaul, have we recieved more checks and alarms, nor even from the Parthians: for, more vigorous and invincible is the liberty of the Germans than the monarchy of the Arascides." - Tacitus
The Cimbri people were an enigma. Virtually unknown until they appeared around 120 BC during a mass migration in search of a new homeland. They had joined with the Teutones and other tribes to swell their ranks to well over 600,000. They came in contact with the Romans, due to a dispute with Rome’s ally the Taurisci in Noricum in 113 BC. Respectfully they acknowledged the sovereignty of Rome and made a request of consul Gnaeus Papirius Carbo for land on which to settle. They offered themselves as auxiliaries to Rome should the need arise. Carbo informed them that there was no land in Noricum, but that guides would direct them to a rich and bountiful area a short march away. But Carbo had already planned an ambush to rid the world of these “barbarians”; an act that would cause Rome more pain than Carthage ever inflicted...and put Rome once again under the threat of occupation.

and the Hellenistic Generals
"A Hellenistic commander yearned both for victory by intellect and to do great deeds with his own hands, to be most capable in fighting and in generalling."

This is the second instalment in what is intended to be a trilogy musically exploring the fictional World of Arcus and its history. 527AD - is the year when Flavius Sabbatius Justinianus became emperor -
With Ages of Darkness (AoD) you become a part of this time.
This century is widely considered to mark the end of Classical Antiquity and the beginning of the Dark Ages.
Following the collapse of the Western Roman Empire late in the previous century, Europe fractured into many small Germanic Kingdoms, which competed fiercely for land and wealth. From this upheaval the Franks rose to prominence, and carved out a sizable domain encompassing much of modern France and Germany. Meanwhile, the surviving Eastern Roman Empire began to expand under the emperor Justinian, who eventually recaptured North Africa from the Vandals, and attempted to fully recover Italy as well in the hope of re-establishing Roman control over the lands once ruled by the Western Roman Empire. Following Justinian's death, most of his gains were lost. The Sassanid Empire reached the peak of its power under Khosrau I in the 6th century.
Ages of Darkness 2 will offer a complete new unit pool of the Roman army in the 6th century, made according new historical sources. A new and unique map, new soundtracks for all cultures, a revised and overhauled sassanid unit pool, new 3D models for buildings, new 2D ingame graphics and a lot of other new stuff
Come and visit us: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=112

"The year is 313BC and the wars among the Diadochoi are taking their toll on the people of the Eastern Mediterranean. Ambitious generals vie with each other for lordship over the domains of Megas Alexandos and peace is fleeting. Ptolemaios Lagou, an esteemed Strategos and friend to Alexandros, attempts to keep the balance of power spread equally among the Diadochoi, without favoring one man over another."
"Breathes new life into one of TW's tightest and most atmospheric iterations with simplicity, balance and superb quality." - Antagonist
VI2 aims to recreate the campaign of MTW: Viking Invasion on the Rome BI engine. It sticks closely to the original campaign, only making changes to correct large inaccuracies, to improve gameplay and comply with the new engine. It is also set a little later than the original campaign at AD 851 - two years after the birth of King Alfred the Great of Wessex.
Hosted on Halie's In The Shade forum and at TopNotchMods.Net
