I have lost count of the number of towns that have been bribed away from me

Whats the best way to prevent it:
a diplomat in town
a spy in town
a large garrison

two games.. Real Time 3D Tactical Battles. WW1 & Modern... bet you have never heard of em!

in normal conditions, a diplomat in the town makes it nearly impossible to bribe.

however I've had several towns bribed from me, that I know had a diplomat in them, so I don't know
‘‘No slave shall keep any arms whatever, nor pass, unless with written orders from his master or employer, or in his company, with arms from one place to another. Arms in possession of a slave contrary to this prohibition shall be forfeited to him who will seize them.’’

I think a large garrison helps greatly. And a spy and a diplomat helps also. But to cover yourself I would do all 3 if possible...

Yes, assassins are a good offensive solution. .

I don't think spies will stop a diplomat. Any garrison or diplomats stationed in the settlement will increase the cost, but they won't prevent it entirely. A diplomat can't bribe someone with Influence 4 points higher than himself, or a faction leader, or an heir. We're looking into giving a temporary influence boost to diplomats stationed in a town, similar to the subterfuge boost spies stationed in a town get.
