I've been having a lot of fun with your expanded map to the east, it's a great reproduction of the geography, but there are a few issues that are quite frustrating. For one horse archers seem to be very overpowered. The rebells seems to field exclusively massive numbers of horse archers, which can tear apart anything except for larger numbers of horse archers. Also the cavalry seems unbalanced. I understand you don't want the super-units of vanilla but in one battle I had 3 units of generals' cavalry that I was repeatedly charging into the backs of some Baktrian phalanx without any effect, and eventually all 3 units routed. Perhaps a bigger charge bonus would make these units more effective for what they were historically used for?

I understand the concerns, but in another thread today I've seen complaints that the cavalry charges are way too overpowered.

Maybe it's a matter of individual unit balance then. I was using Pontic Generals on VH/VH.

VH the AI gets crazy bonuses in battle. Try Medium battle difficulty there is no shame. I always play medium and find it more balanced than harder settings. I even lost 2 battles playing medium but I lost them due to overpowered AI cavalry bodyguards

So far I have no complaints about the CAV. However, I did notice how powerful the Carthagian general's bodyguard are. They can slam through infantry like it's nothing. The AI also does more hit and run tactics with mounted troops. Those body guards can do some damage. I don't mind it , it's a challenge.

Well I think that if the general's bodyguards were not overpowered they would probably die fast as I have noticed the suicidal general tendency in the OB. I have only seen Macedon for the time being so I don't know how other factions are. Now it is a real challenge killing the AI general.

I remember the intense feeling of satisfaction I got when Antigonos himself laid siege to Byzantion. My pontic soldiers were vastly outnumbered, but when he finally charged in (didn't do it at first, but eventually), and I took out most of his units, he finally routed. I had some light cav I sent out through another gate and they chased him down before he got away, resulting in his corpse lying next to his horse, both being trampled over by other fleeing Makedonian footsoldiers in their attempt to flee. Ahhhhhhh.

Cavarly needs more charge bonus, that's all.

Plus your take on cav is certinly not undisputed, plenty of people have complained on both sides.

Well, I've been playing carthage, and when the cavalry does charge it's adequately strong. However, way too often, they'll just run towards the enemy line and start whacking them, with no real charge and no charge momentum. Sometimes, if I pull them far away from the enemy, wait for them to get in formation and then click the enemy line, they do charge. but even then, it's not guaranteed.

As for carthaginians generals being overpowered: You have to take into account the general unit you were fighting might have had lots of experience, thus becoming super-strong. Also, I've noticed that every unit of generals I get (as cartago) has approximately 40 to 50 men max, while I've fought iberian, roman and epirote generals that had 110 to 120 men on their units!
believe in nothing.
