Welcome to the EB open beta! Thank you for agreeing to test this early version of our modification; it will surely help us find and crush all the CTD and other bugs which exist in the mod. Thank you for your understanding in not getting upset when these bugs happen - this is an opportunity to help us make the mod better, not a production release.

Instructions for installation:

Make sure you have a clean version of RTW installed on your computer, then install patch version 1.2. This patch is still available on many RTW sites, including Activision's site. Once this is done, we encourage you to make a backup of the entire /data/ directory and subdirectories.

Next, run the EB installation utility. This should install all files to their proper locations, and create a new shortcut on your desktop. All you need to do is run this shortcut to test EB (if you must use your own shortcut, please note the -show_err and -nm parameters, these help us in testing and give you better content, respectively).

If you have problems, prior to attempting to play the game, make sure you delete Rome Total War/data/world/maps/base/map.rwm. This file may need to be removed from the recycle bin.

Our installer currently overwrites your preferences file so as to enable new players to play without being confused by a "prologue" message. In the future we will be able to make this change without affecting your other preferences, but for now, if you have something you want to save, please do so prior to installation.

When first playing, please make sure to load the campaign script every time you first start a campaign, and any time you load a saved game. Whenever you click on certain game elements and the script is not running, the advisor will pop up to remind you. This is very important; much of the EB game experience is found in scripting, and so not running this will be very problematic.

You may also find gameplay guides, a guide to the differences between EB and vanilla RTW, and assistance in many forms there. In addition, you may find "help wanted" posts, as we are always looking for assistance. As you will see many missing descriptions and things we could improve in the mod itself, we hope you will join with us to create something wonderful. With the open beta will come more open discussion about our plans and goals, which we hope you will help us shape.

We are currently working on a full EB manual, as well as many aids to playing EB, such as unit guides, building guides, and so on. Included in this manual will be a full list of credits with specific contributions. In the meantime, however, we feel the need to thank many people for their work and assistance in making this release happen:
