Welcome to a much delayed Scriptorium Editorial. Thia is the 9th edition our publication which is designed to keep all members of TWC informed in what the Scriptorium has archived. Our goal remains to issue the Scriptorium as close to the first of each month as possible.mmTo help in our goal to continue to archive the best of TWC we needed to increase our numbers to spread out the workload. Welcome the three newest librarians, Nikos, Graham and Ratbag!

A big change is being made to how we determine what articles to archive in the Scritporium. The Librarians will be scouring the shelves. We wish that all submitted works be original. To that end, we are putting in place procedures to review existing works for plagarism. Nazgûl Killer has led the charge with this new prject. We also will screen the new articles as a part of our normal review of new submissions.

This list of additions is from August 16th through September 24th. This is a bit more than a month. We have several additions to our collection into history, modding, and TW guides. Now that it is fall, take the time to sit in your cozy chair by the fireplace and read a bit from our new additions.

The Scriptorium's additions, in order of submission, are listed below:Onwards, we have our Scriptorium Article Reviews. For our editorial review, we have Viking Prince's review on Tiberius Tosi's two part history article on Napoleon's Invasion of Russia.

There is excitement in the Total War community. The announcement of a new game based upon Empire: Total War with the working title of Napoleon: Total War will create a new chapter in the Total War franchise. Tiberius Tosi has submitted a fine two part article that has recently been accepted into the Scriptorium. Napoleon's battle at Borodino (Moscow) was the climatic high watermark of the Invasion. The article is broken down into two parts. The first part is background and a series of battles leading up to and including the battle at Moscow. The retreat and the series of battles involved as Napoleon' army is destroyed is dealt with in part two.

The basis of the article is Napoleon's campaigns in 1812 that led up to and followed the battle of Borodino. The chaos of the Napoleonic Era is this campaign. More than one million people died when both sides and civilians are examined. This is the greatest horror of war that Europe had ever witnessed up to this point in time. The scale is huge starting with the assembly of troops from all corners of Europe. The battles are immense with hundreds of thousands of horses, and thousands of cannon. Without this campaign, the enemies of France would not have been able to exile Napoleon. The great strategic folly as well as genius of the military leader Napoleon must be studied to be appreciated.

Books have been written about many narrow details of this grand campaign. Tiberius Tosi has drawn upon printed works to create this abbreviated history. He has assembled a wide variety of pictures to illustrate the article including paintings, sketches and battlefield maps (all documented at the end of the article for those interested).

The article is large by TWC article standards, but is still compact enough for a light read. This article is interesting enough that I had to break out my own copy of David Chandler's The Campaigns of Napoleon. Once you get started, you will want to read much more about this period of history. If you are interested in the era, this article is a great start to rekindle an interest in Napoleon.

Regards,

Viking Prince

If you ever come across any articles of interest do not hesitate to PM any of the currently active Librarians. Also, if you know of any plagarism issues, we do want to know about them to help maintian the quaility of the collection. If you want to get more involved, PM Pøntifex, the Chief Librarian, to discuss participation. We currently added three new librarians: Nikos, Graham and Ratbag!on but we are always scouting for new talent. Remeber, if you do not come forward, we will never know about your interest!
