| Viking Invasion II (BI) Viking Invasion II aims to recreate the campaign of the cult-status MTW: Viking Invasion on the Rome BI engine. It sticks closely to the original campaign, only making changes to correct large inaccuracies, to improve gameplay and comply with the new engine. i installed DoB over VI2 last night and when i went to start a campaign it CTD'd. I tried it bunch of times with different factions, none work. This morning i re-installed both VI2 and DoB, again same problem.
I use vista and installed both mod and sub-mod using the exe full versions. I installed them stright to the RTW folder and everything seemed to work fine but I just have this CTD problem. Any thoughts? |

That's strange. You installed DoB over VI2 1.7, right? And you have DoB 1.2 in the top-right corner of your menu screen in-game?

Just a guess - could it be Vista interfering? I.e. lack of admin status or something like that? I installed RTW on my Vista machine only after I'd disabled the user account control thing, so I wouldn't know if having that on, and/or not using an account with admin status might cause problems... I do know that caused problems with a few other games for me when I first tried to install them on Vista...

The instructions - see http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=221350 - do mention about this Vista matter. I assume this has been read.

It's an installation "thingy" because it works for everybody else
Can you tell us *exactly* what you did? Perhaps you misunderstood some part or wrongly applied it? |

yeh, i had rome and BI installed, both done up to the necessary patches and downloaded VI2 a few days ago. I used VI2 fine for a few days and decided to download DoB. So I downloaded it from the download thread (exe version) and applied that. nothing special. am i right in assuming that i am to install both VI2 and DoB to the RTW folder, or is DoB to be apllied to the VI2 folder?

VI2 and DoB are both applied to the RTW folder, yes.
Clean install of RTW / BI Upgrade to BI 1.6 Apply VI2 1.7 exe Apply DoB 1.2 exe If you have done this I cannot understand why it would not work unless the download corrupted or your system did something it should not have. Does it say DoB 1.2 in the top corner of the menu screen? Have you tried the RAR version? (though the DoB 1.2 exe should work if the VI2 1.7 exe did). Timestamp Check: C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\bi\VI2\data\credits.txt, for example, should be timestamped May 2009 (VI2 1.7's is March 2009). Is this the case? |

If it is corrupted, you need to re-download it, I'm afraid.

you can only deleted VI2 from RTW folder. one question: did you installed VI2/DoB to RTW directory? I mean not to RTW/BI directory?

A modfoldered mod just needs the modfolder deleted (in this case "VI2") to be totally uninstalled. Some mods have "uninstaller" files in them but they are almost certainly left in by error and should never be used unless the mod explicitly states they can.
There really are only a few problems that could cause the issues you are struggling with: * corrupt download * incorrect installation of RTW/BI * failure to upgrade RTW/BI to 1.6 * incorrect installation of VI2/DoB * unclean RTW/BI * system settings or other incompatability with your system (in which case the RAR can be used) Have you tried the RAR? |

If you have BI then it automatically updates RTW, whether it's 1.4 or 1.6. So all you have to do is install RTW, then BI and then upgrade BI to 1.6 IF it is not 1.6 already (i.e. if it is 1.4).

tried deleting VI2 again and reinstalling with the rar. didnt work basically re tried everything i'm stumped, i would be happy to just play VI2 but i cant help but feel DoB is worth keeping going for so anyone got any more ideas? has this happened before? has the origional download corrupted? |

No, it's not happened before.
If it's corrupted then you can probably tell by the filesize. The exe should be 31.8 MBs (which will be listed as 32,665 KB in your folder). Though it's highliy unlikely both the exe and rar have corrupted! It's more likely that it happens when a person downloads it because of their connection...but if you have vi2 working and DoB not then I'm stumped too. |
