Hello all. This comprehensive review of the ETW engine will show how well you can expect to run ETW at the different settings depending on your processor speed and graphic card. The test computers will consist of :

AMD 64 X2 6000+ Ranging from 2.4 GHz to 3.2 GHz
2.5 GHz Memory DDR2 800
Nvidia 7900 GT OC 256MB & Nvidia 9800 GTX+

Each test fps will contain the fps value as soon as I hit End Deployment as it stablizies. The reason is that this will be the max fps your computer will achieve. Below are factors that will drop your fps:

1. Melee Combat
2. Missile Combat
3. Terrain Map
4. Weather Conditions

Land Battle

I chose the Alpine Pass map so that all the units can be shown when starting a battle as well assume the majority of your battle maps will be fairly simple in the game. The land test consists of:

1. 1 v 1 Half Stack vs. Half Stack (3000 men)
2. 1 v 1 Full Stack vs. Full Stack (6000 men)
3. 2 v 2 Full Stack vs. Full Stack (12000 men)

Sea Battle

The sea test will consist of:
1. 20 Ships
2. 40 Ships

Please note that I did 80 ships and got only 3 fps on the fatest computer at the lowest quality, so I will not be testing 4 full stacks as it is unplayable on my rig. Also, a majority of my tests made no difference on High and Very High settings, so I omitted the Very High preset.

Graphics

Now I will use the preset Graphic Settings (Low, Medium, and High) and then change the Troop Size to Ultra to allow the most men on the battlefield at each different graphic setting. With all this taken into account below are the results of my work and some simple conclusions.

The conclusion I have come by, which stands true still after receiving the minimum specifications back in January, that the most important part of your computer to how well the game will work is the processor.

If there are any questions about my testing, I will sure answer them.

Very helpful, I'm almost convinced to upgrade to a core i7 and try to get it to 4ghz now, seeing as how this game seems to be quite CPU dependent.

I7 is crazy fast, no matter what i do, i dont go over 30% usage(normal pc operations.. and most games excluding gta 4).

For example, i had a e8500 @ 3.0ghz playing gta 4 it was 95-100% usage constant.

Upgraded to i7... doesn't go over 33%... its the biggest evolution of proccessing that ive ever seen from one generation to another.

So it should be, it costs enough. Not only do you have to buy the CPU and a new Motherbaord, you also have to buy DDR3 RAM, does it have to be triple channel as well? Oh and a top range graphics card to make the upgrade worth it, something like a GTX280 or 4870 at least.

So yeah if i shelled out that much on a new processor I would want it to be able to own anything I throw at it.

Just out of interest, what grapihcs card do you have? Because it seems like your CPU is bottlenecked by it, not that it's a problem though, as like you said, you can play anything you throw at it fine.

I sold my old parts, so cost was minimal for me..

As for my video card 280gtx 1gig BFG OC.

Demo ran ULTRA fine(40+fps no visual lag) @ 1080p.

Full game comes today... damn amazon.

Wow, nice set up you got there! I'm stuck with a AMD 6000+ and a 8600GT for the time being, still it doesn't play too badly on medium.

Yeah just got my copy in the post today from Amazon, couldn't believe it to be honest. I ordered it yesterday evening with Super Saver delivery and it was waiting for me when I got home today.

I have a 285 GTX and the demo ran fine for me on ULTRA as well.

Full game however, don;t expect too much. I was kinda bummed when i first played it. I didn;t run that good, Even though I have the feeling it should.

Tried every driver I could find, no dice.

I hope they patch it soon.

I also had performance issues with the game (Core i7 920, 6GB RAM, GTX260) that I did not see in the demo in the slightest.

Thats pretty damn weird, did it seem to be CPU slowdowns or graphics slowdowns?

Oh and nice set up you have there as well, damn all you people with top range rigs.

Honestly, it was hard to tell. I really don't think it was the CPU, but then again, it shouldn't be the card either. Most of the battles were fine with a couple of exceptions. The campaign map is stuttery and there is a lag associated with trying to move the camera. Seems like an engine issue.

Meh, ETW doesn't seem to like top end rigs as much as it should.
