Hic Est Lacedaemon This mod is based on DimeBagHo's excellent mod of RTW, XGM or Extended Greek Mod, and aims to go even further in developing the Hellenistic factions and providing Sparta as its own complete culture! Focusing and attempting to emulate the problems of unity the the Greeks faced, first in opposition to Macedonia and secondly to Rome and thirdly to limit the expansion options of the Acaen and Aetolian Leagues and of course Sparta. Hopefully if you play as any one of these small players of the Hellenistic World you may see what problems they faced in historic reality.

WHAT


This mod is based on DimeBagHo's excellent mod of RTW, XGM or Extended Greek Mod, and aims to go even further in developing the Hellenistic factions and providing my own interpretation of historical accuracy with hopefully keeping it a playable, interesting and enjoyable gaming experience.
With that in mind their are some unique features that have been included and as far as I know some have not been included in any other mod.
1. A Spartan playable faction with new units (Spartan Personal Bodyguard (non-recruitable bodyguard for the king), Spartan Royal Bodyguard, Spartan Hoplites and Pikemen, Spartan Ekdromeis Hoplites, Spartan Cavalry, Spartan Skirmish Cavalry, Perioicic Hoplites, Perioicic Phalangites, Neodamodeis Hoplites, and Helot Phalangites)
2. A unique Spartan culture including portraits and buildings
3. Redesigned Settlements and special city specific settlements such as Corinth, Ephesus, Messene and sanctuaries; Olympia, Delphi, and Dodona. (still to do)
4. There are many new Greek cities inc. Olympia, Delphi, Mantinea, Argos, Ithome, and Megalopolis.
5. Some new factions like the Aetolian and Achaean Leagues, full faction list : Rome, Epirus, Athens, Aetolian League, Sparta, Macedon, Seleucids, Ptolemies, Achaean League, Pergamum, Geto-Thracians, Illyrians, Samartians, Celtic Tribes, Carthage, Parthia, Armenia, Pontus, Independant Greek States, emergent Northern tribes (inc Dacians, Germans, Bastarnae) and other independent city states and peoples.
6. Separate barracks and colonies for Carthage, Sparta, Successor states.
7. replaced religions with political beliefs (Democracy,Oligarchy,Monarchy,Tyrrany and Tribal).
8. Seleucids and Egyptians can build barbarian colony and build up to level 1.
9. To summarize the script we have 4tpy, military reforms, Spartan revolution, Aratus, financial help for slaves, garrisons, Ptolemeic financial support for anti macedonians.
10. Added attrition traits the longer you are in nme territory the worse your supply situation. Its not in the EB magnitude but its been made manageable for run times on slower machines.
11. A painstaking effort was made to include TRUE Spartan names and Quotes.
12. New Spartan specific event pics as well.

14. All vanilla units, banners, symbols replaced

The reason for concentrating more detail on the Greek regions was to try and emulate the problems of unity that the Greeks faced, first in opposition to Macedonia and secondly to Rome and thirdly to limit the expansion options of the Achaean and Aetolian Leagues and of course Sparta. Hopefully if you play any one of these small players of the Hellenistic World you may get to see what problems they faced in historic reality.

This mod will be able to be run on any of these flavours of RTW ;

2. Alex, for preference, although shield wall and hording are not available the AI strategically and tactically is improved and it has other features that commend it to me.

WHERE and WHEN

The Historical Setting is the Hellenistic world of 272 BC, Pyrrhus has been persuaded by the cuckold Cleonymus to place him as sole ruler in Sparta and has arrived in the Peloponnese with a large army on the pretext of freeing Greece from Antigonas Gonatas. Areus king of Sparta is away in Crete with the bulk of the Spartan army to to help the city of Gortys and recruit mercenaries. Sparta is lightly defended and ripe for the plucking. Can you defend Sparta against the Epirot King until the return of Areus. To the South West Carthage controls most of Sicily prior to the inevitable clash with the Roman Republic. The Romans having seen off Pyrrhus will bring the Greek Cities of Italy under their 'protection' and then turn north. To the north the Gauls and the Germans are quiet for now. In the east the Seleucids vie with the Ptolemies over Syria and Asia Minor while the fledgling kingdoms of Armenia, Parthia and Pontus protect their independence. In the unknown steppes to the north the Samartians gather to visit destruction on the civilised world. The Celtic hordes (Galatians that ravaged Macedonia and Central Greece have settled in Thrace and Galatia bringing chaos to the Hellenic World. Antigonus Gonatas has recovered the Macedonian homeland and controls the fetters of Greece (Demetrius, Chalcis and Corinth). But the Greek City States are not quiescent and are about to throw off Macedonian domination. One of these under their young king Areus of Sparta, with pretentions of being a Hellenistic Monarch and with a little Egyptian money, is ready to lead the Greek States to 'freedom'.

SETTLEMENTS
A lot of work has gone into settlements. The effort has been to try to bring some life into the cities. And in some instances create the city specifically – but not to a 1 to 1 realism.
As well – new forts will arrive you will enjoy these versions of them.
The "special" settlements in the game are meant to be representations of accuracy up to 60-65% - and have been designed within the parameters and limits of vanilla settlements to reduce work and so that they could be finished for inclusion.

All settlement plans have been re-designed - they are not 100% flawless - there may be the odd tree growing up out of the corner of a building - this happens when - all settlements were made WITHOUT - 3dsmax only using the coordinates as a mapping system. The effort has been to create some variety between cultures, a better battle environment and to get rid of the Prison System - labyrinth style settlements that existed in the vanilla game. The reason for this was to move some of the Total War of Rome past just being total war and include some sense of adventure to it all.



We need an experienced mapper - if any one is interested please pm Hacon or Solo1906. Our map is done it just needs to be touched up for aesthetic purposes.
