PREVIEW 1:

WELCOME to our first preview! The purpose here is to give you a sense of what this mod is all about. We are Classical total conversion mod for MTW2, working to bring you those years in which Romans, Etruscans, Greeks, Gauls, Samnites, all mightily fought together for Italy, with featured bronze-equipped hoplites, Gallic hordes, Greek philosophers, and that provincial town with unusual pretensions, which you might know as Rome!

Today we'll be previewing three things: Map, Units, and custom Music composed for our mod.

MAP:

The goal of our map-maker was to give an especial life-like ability to the depiction of Italy, so that it is not merely a flat abstraction of the land but is the land itself. Thus included are rolling hills, vital and actual geographical locations, and a minutae attention to aesthetic taste.

Here is an example of how a winding river might look, partially obscured by its trees. Also notice the gently sloping mountains to the left.

Here is the famous (infamous?) pass at Caudine Forks, where Samnite and Roman history intertwined in a historic and terrible fashion. Notice the snaking of the terrain in an organic fashion:

If you'd like to see more, head over to a fully featured Map preview already featured on our forum!

UNITS:

A fierce armored Gallic host, advancing south!...

... to tear down an ancient and venerable Etruscan civilization, whose heavy armor hoplites...

... in phalanx formation, await the clash! (here, fighting against units I made invisible)

On the other hand stand the assorted soldiers of the Roman legion and the glittering triarii in the back...

... against a mighty Samnite host, of tough and armored highlanders, who also painted things like the artwork in our banner:

About 80-85% of ALL the units for Paeninsula Italica have already been modeled and coded. You might find screenshots of them strewn around the forum, and a more qualified preview of each of the factions will be coming out to a computer near you in due course.

MUSIC:

Garve, a skillful Italian composer, has been writing custom music for our mod that adds a great deal of variety and allows us not to infringe on copyrights of various other movies or music. Over 30 wonderful pieces have already been composed, and here are three teaser previews of what it's like:

We hope you enjoyed these previews, and much more will be coming in the recent days and weeks!

The Paeninsula Italica Team

"If ye love wealth greater than liberty,
the tranquility of servitude greater than
the animating contest for freedom, go
home from us in peace. We seek not
your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch
down and lick the hand that feeds you,
and may posterity forget that ye were
our countrymen."
-Samuel Adams
