Wouldn’t it be great to create sub-mod for EB starting around 220bc (just a few years before the Second Punic war, probably the most important war of that period).

Why?

- first, the epic mode like EB deserves to have an alternative starting period; little tired of Pyrrhus the Boring and his 'adventures'...how about Hannibal?

- more interesting and developed factions (barbarians for example), the Romans would be a little stronger (but not too much), Carthage and hellenistic kingdoms still very powerfull , the parthians and baktria more expanded, and better defined as factions (and of course larger).

- players will finally have a chance to recruit some advanced units, maybe even imperial legions (which is almost impossible when game start in 272).
That is 50 years X 4tpy = 200 turns or more later!

Also, in this way it would be logical and accurate that almost all reforms be available from the start, eliminating complicated and sometimes frustrating triggering mechanisms and reform scripts (and of course that means shorter scripts, and considerably faster ai turns).

Im not talking here about some complicated graphical changes of the original Eb, unit balancing or something like that, just about some relaltively minor tweaks of scripts, main camapign and probably EDB and some text descriptions (starting characters names, biographies etc).

if they would change it to 220bc they would have to adjust all the factions not just carthage and rome and those reforms are great, they really spice up your campaign once u hit them.

plus, by 220 bc, epirus has been out of the scene for quite a while...also, that time period would call for a completely redrawn map, redone characters, etc... a ton of work.

Not at all, and certainly not completely redrawn map...
Changing 10 settlements isnt exactly 'ton of work'; about characters, as i said, changing their names and biographies isnt that complicated.

you are right about epirus, but it can be removed (or even better it could be changed into some new faction [syracuse, pergamus, thrace, illyrians, or maybe to return yuezhi from 0.7 version]; but that editing definitely needs some work, so its far easier to remove them completely or eventually leave them with one city [not very historically accurate but you could also say that for some factions in 272 ]).

I think having a 220bc mod would be great! Rome rised as a superpower after the 2nd Punic War so people would finnaly get to play the rise (and maybe evan fall of the Republic). The second punic war was the most Epic war ever fought in the ancient mederterian, and having Roman's and Carthagian's (and even Macedonians) battling it out in Italy, Spain, Greece and Africa would be great. In my opinion having Hannibal at the steps of the alps would be a good opening time

Rome didn't have the Marian reform in 220 BC.

What you are proposing would mean remaking the mod from scratch. With new factions, units, provinces, characters and buildings.

I don't think anyone has two years of free time to do that...

i think if the used kingdoms for eb 2 and then we could have 3 mini-campaigns, 1 focused on hannibal and the west mediterranean, 1 focused on greece and the north-east meditteranean, and 1 focused on egypt a little before the roman invasion, in the east mediterranean, going up to maybe byzantium. and then have the main campaign normal.

If we did 3 campaigns we would have to start the maps from scratch, where if we just changed a few regions to different fractions, we could include all fractions including barbarians and nomads.

Can someone tell me where the thread he has about this mod is? (assuming he has one). I'd love to have my cohortes reformata at the beginning

edit: oh, 70 AD, cohortes imparatoria, even better!

One thing i did like about Medieval 1, was the different campaign times, i dont know why they took it out with Rome.

Starting before the 2nd Punic War would be awesome!

I'd quite like a campaign set in the steppe entirely (encompassing the Balkans until Inner Mongolia, then south until southern Anatolia or the Levant), including all the tribes. Perhaps before Alexander, and using emergent factions to represent Alexander / the Seleucids / various others.

Unlikely to ever happen though
