Ok as some of you already know there is a MTW FAQ available here:Total War Library that contains the answer to most question topics that were posted in the past in MTW and Battle Planning section and I also added some more. My request to all new members(players) is that if they want to pose a question or some definition about something in the game, I suggest thay seek their answer in the above link and if it is not contained there then they are free to post a topic to resolve their questions. Also if someone has feedback and suggestions about this FAQ PM me or through msn and if I gather more questions and improvements I will update the FAQ and make a better version of it.

Cheers -_-

You can only get an alan merc as a mercenary, not a regular trained troop of any faction.

Organ guns pretty much suck, because their range is something like 2 cm. The only place I've found the slightest use for them is in a bridge defense, where I site them near my end of the bridge. Even then, their range is so short they won't even cover all of the span of the bridge. Organ guns are basically a ruse and a waste of money. Wait and spend your money on serpentines and culverin-types.

I second that morble. Organ has amazing blast vs AI and armour though. Btw if you have any more questions about FAQ to insert or to correct just tell them here and in future I may add them to make a better version.

Is there any way to get my archer units to pull out their swords and charge the enemy before they run out of ammunition? It's annoying when the addition of extra bodies might turn the battle in my favor, but my archers will only fire at the enemy and not charge in, especially when it's units that can hold their own in melee and aren't just dedicated archers.

When your archers aren't out of amunition and you want to charge them in melee to help your rest troops, you can just press the Alt key and point with your mouse to the enemy unit you want ot charge and (double)click it. So Alt+click is the way to force your archers to melee. (double click will be even better caue they will run towards the enemy ) Finally have in mind you can also use the upper buttons while having selected the archer unit. You can change their skirmish situation to "hold position" or "engage at will" so they wont try to keep a distance from the enemy.(useful when handling javelineers)

Cheers -_-

I suppose the Pope never excommunicates himself.... (no reason to do it! ) and for your second question I did not understand what you want to know... :

I've never tried it, but I suppose that Pope can still excommunicate when you control him as faction although I am not sure.

I don't think it's something that you can do at will, but perhaps if your attacked when playing as the Papacy by a Catholic faction, maybe they will be excommunicated automatically. Please post if you find out for sure as I'm curious.

To play as papacy you must mod a file of MTW. You'll find your asnwer in workshop section. As for changing unit size you can do that(among others) in Game options.

Playing as rebels has some disadvantages. SOme of them are that you cannot build ships and no special units. You aren't doing anything wrong. It is just supposed to work that way. Nevertheless you can enjoy a lot the game as rebels by taking advantage of the large armies that revolt in certain provinces and by civil wars(yes they do happen many times).
