Here are the Download Links:

Image adjustments, UI, selections, etc:

Layer styles, blending modes, etc:

Assignment:
Go through the tutorials. Please play close attention, since these are quite dense, and they form the foundation of later assignments.

Afterwards, find a photo or anything that you'd like, and experiment with it for a half hour. Since this is not an aesthetic assignment, it can't really be graded or checked. I would highly suggest you do it, though, because it will help reinforce what you learn from the video tutorials; if you do it yourself as you go along, or directly after (I'd recommend as you go along), you will retain your knowledge. Its a fact, its something I and anyone else who has done enough tutorials has done from experience. Its especially important for video tutorials, as it is not as easy to find where exactly something is talked about. Also, to that end, I would take notes with a pencil and paper.

Resources:
Free textures:
www.mayang.com/textures
www.cgtextures.com
There are more but we will be using those for the class.

Please contact me or post here with any questions, issues, or suggestions. A new tutorial will be out Monday, June 24.

If you would like class crits on something you have worked on, this assignment or otherwise, feel free to make a thread in the classroom.

The download speeds are sooo slow i usually get 25kb/s and now it is 2kb/s its unbelievable.
Perhaps if you uploaded them on megaupload.com it would be better.

That's right. I'm going to repost this question in the thread, as well, since other students may have the same.

Great tutorial, 420! I particularly found some of the hotkeys (mainly tab and the fullscreen hotkey) particularly useful. I will say I'm still having trouble seeing the differences between 8 bit and 16 bit (probably a combination of a bad monitor and your video codec) but I will experiment. This is a great start, thanks.
I believe, then, that we must choose a general, not because of noble birth as priests are chosen, nor because of wealth as the superintendents of the gymnasia, but because he is temperate, self-restrained, vigilant, frugal, hardened to labour, alert, free from avarice, neither too young nor too old, indeed a father of children if possible, a ready speaker, and a man with good reputation. -Onosander

Sorry I am not in a position to concentrate on them right now. I am in a maths camp, and there are accomodation and net access problems. I'll hand in the assignments when I get home.

LtL: Once the set is complete I will upload it to some better hosting.

Onosander: Try doing what I did (a large soft edged brush in an alpha channel) on 8 bit and 16 bit, really zoomed in, you'll see a pretty clear difference along the outer edges.

bubka: Its alright, no worries, thanks for the heads up.

Just thought I would post this link here. It lists all (I think) of the photoshop hotkeys. A little hard to decipher, but easy once you understand how its set up.

Thanks for the tutorials Prof. For this assignment I take it we save them as PSD?

Great, I finished the tuts and tried some things I didnt knew at the same time in PS. I was going to do the assignment right now.

Also, it might be a good idea to PM each person who signed up or post as a front page news about the starting of the lessons since many people might be unaware that tuturials were already up.

Since there are so many signed up people in this course it might better to create a single thread to post the works hum?

Just finished the first assignment. It is a Star Wars image. I have both the Jpg and PSD version, what shall I do with them?
