Thread: [STW AAR] Shimazu's Story

    Default [STW AAR] Shimazu's Story

    Introduction
Shogun was the first TW game I played, though I was never much good at it. I autoresolved most of the battles and still lost most of my campaigns. I loved the game however, and was dissapointed when I broke the disc. By this point however, there were newer TW games to play so I didn't dwell on it for long. Fast forward to the present; I'm heading of to uni at the end of this month and can't play ETW or NTW on my laptop without it looking like lego: total war, and although it can play M2TW and RTW very well, I wanted to wet my appetite for S2TW. So I bought Shogun Gold Edition, I'd only ever had the original game and I'm still learning the new features that the expansion brings. I managed to lose the last tutorial battle but nevertheless I'm playing on normal, and won't austoresolve a single battle(It's the only way I'll learn). There may be a lull in updates when I move to uni as I try to settle in, but there should be some degree of regularity. The format of the AAR will be the same as A Prussian Campaign, but with better spelling.

Although I've never played Shogun (nor have I had any interest in doing so, really), this is pretty interesting. Good start!

I actually laughed a bit when I read the sentence "Do not assassinate him."
Quick question(s): does every castle in Shogun have a garrison limit? And do generals have command limits as well? Finally, is the typical army 20 units in Shogun, like in the other Total War titles?

The maximum size an army can be is 16 units. The garrison limits on the castles depend on weather they have been upgraded or not. A small castle can garrison 4 units, once upgraded it can garrison 8, another upgrade 12 and finally 16. Generals don't have command limits.

It's a good game, though quite a bit different from the RTW onwards games. I still say the BAI is the best in the series, it's totally merciless. Rather than making descisions like "where should I flank him", your forced into making descisions like "which units should I sacrifice to open up his flank".

Ah. That's really cool. I wish they'd have continued to implement the limitations like that.

Thanks for reading It's a shame there aren't more Shogun AAR's. I did a search and could only find a few.

I bought it from Amazon UK for only Ģ3.99.

    That's very kind, I thought.
Looking good, glad to see another update!

Nice job in that battle. Too bad about all the losses, though.
This is quite an interesting AAR. It's too bad there aren't more readers (read: comments).

Nice to see an Shogun:TW AAR again (The last one I read was a year or longer ago)
And very well done also Zarniwoop +rep
Donīt pay much attention to the AAR section but thanks to your signature I discovered this thread. Otherwise I would have missed this excellent and interesting work.

Together with the first MTW - Shogun is still the best and most immersive TW game. Too bad that I have so many CTDīs when I am trying to play both games.
