I am impressed, glad I clicked on the link..heh. The racism thing is same here in Australia. I find it wierd this 'gansta rap' in my New Zealand Maori friends and family I know and the new African arrivals after they get here. Lol,why want to be a 'loser' ganster? I like rap and hip hop,but fair go..I don't need to be a person with no respect or care..lol. The older generation of Maori and ones who don't follow this ganster USA culture are frowned upon. My family is Maori also and some collegues at work african,so seen it.
RIP Andy aka "Calvin",sorely missed by many.

Rahl your not being racist but you are showing your age! Hip Hop/Rap has become popular for the same reason Rock music did, it appeals to young people and it comes from the 'street' or the working classes which has always been cool and something that a lot more young people can identify with then music from a bunch of stuck of rich boys. Rock music has gone full circle by the late 80's it was all about over the top hair doos and which band could spend the most money on a video, by the 90's it went the other way and become very sterile and frankly quite bland. Hip hop is now where rock music was back in late 80's and we are slowly starting to the excesses of go away from Hip Hop and new genres and sounds coming through.

Yeah, that makes sense. I can only hope that in the near future more rap groups will go back to the old school, where they rapped about life in general and hardships. When I first started listening to rap and hip-hop, back in the mid-90's, I liked it because it had a good beat, and even though I wasn't from the ghetto or anything, the message in the songs were more universal and I could relate to them. Now it's all about creating an image of tons of money and on responsibility. I guess that appeals to the youth these days (and any time).
